Why filter vapor through water?
Vaporizers don’t produce smoke, but the vapor can still be warm and dry – especially at high temperatures above 200 °C. A water pipe or bubbler changes that completely. The water cools the vapor down to comfortable temperatures and filters out fine particles.
- Cooling: Vapor above 200 °C gets brought down to a comfortable temperature. Less throat irritation.
- Filtration: Fine particles get caught in the water. Cleaner vapor reaches your lungs.
- Smoother draws: You can take deeper hits without coughing. Great for sensitive airways.
- Bigger hits: Because the vapor is cooled, you can inhale more at once.
Active compound loss through water is minimal. The active compounds are barely water-soluble. You might lose 2-5% in flavor but gain significant comfort.
WPA types: native vs. adapter
Native glass connection
Arizer devices like the Air MAX, Solo 3 V2, and XQ2 use glass stems as their vapor path. These stems have the right diameter to fit directly into a bong. Air MAX and Solo 3 V2 fit 14mm, the XQ2 has native 18mm. No accessories needed – insert stem, done.
Adapter (S&B WPA)

Storz & Bickel offers an official WPA adapter for the Venty, Crafty+, and Mighty+. It replaces the cooling unit and has a 14mm joint. The Volcano Hybrid uses the Obsidian attachment – an integrated water filter that sits on top.
DynaVap 10mm / 14mm

The DynaVap M7 has a 10mm tip that fits directly into small bubblers. With the fat mouthpiece (included) it also fits 14mm. The DynaVap + small bubbler combo is one of the most popular setups in the community.
Joint sizes: 10mm, 14mm, 18mm
14mm is the global standard. Most bubblers and medium bongs use 14mm. 18mm is found on large water pipes. 10mm is rare but used on some micro bubblers. 18-to-14mm reducers cost 3-5 € and solve most compatibility issues.
Top 10 vaporizers with water pipe compatibility
1. Venty — from ~285 € across 63 shops
The S&B flagship works with the official WPA adapter (14mm). The adapter replaces the top cooling unit and turns the Venty into a bong station. The already open airflow becomes even smoother through water. 20-second heatup, app control, dosing capsules – everything works with WPA just like without.
2. Air MAX — from ~59 € across 60 shops
The Air MAX from Arizer is the cheapest native WPA vaporizer. Its glass stem fits directly into any 14mm bong – just insert and vape. No adapter, no extra cost. For 59 euros you get a full vaporizer with a pure glass vapor path that doubles as a WPA. Unbeatable value for bong users.
3. Crafty+ — from ~173 € across 58 shops
The Crafty+ uses the same WPA adapter as the Venty (14mm). More compact than the Mighty+, with Bluetooth app and dosing capsules. Solid WPA device – just the 60-second heatup is slower than the Venty.
4. PAX Flow — from ~190 € across 57 shops

The PAX Flow can be connected to a bong using the 3D screen and a third-party WPA adapter (from ~15 €). Good seal, solid airflow. Not as seamless as Arizer or S&B, but it works well.
5. XQ2 — from ~117 € across 53 shops
The XQ2 is a desktop vaporizer from Arizer with a native 18mm glass connection. Just insert the whip or elbow adapter into an 18mm bong. Remote control, precise temperature, two usage modes. The cheapest desktop with WPA at 117 euros.
6. Mighty+ — from ~266 € across 51 shops
The Mighty+ uses the S&B WPA adapter (14mm). Vapor quality through water is excellent. Best battery life of any portable (90+ minutes), built-in display. Only downside: 60-second heatup.
7. Solo 3 V2 — from ~153 € across 51 shops
Like the Air MAX, the Solo 3 V2 glass stem fits directly into 14mm. Add the fastest heatup (5 seconds) and a 3500 mAh battery. Pure glass vapor path delivers even cleaner flavor through water.
8. DynaVap M7 — from ~59 € across 50 shops
The M7 from DynaVap fits 10mm bubblers directly. With the fat mouthpiece (included) it fits 14mm too. No electricity needed, butane hybrid heating, 34 g. The DynaVap + small bubbler setup is one of the most popular and cheapest combos out there.
9. Volcano Hybrid — from ~396 € across 59 shops
The Volcano Hybrid from Storz & Bickel is the reference desktop. The Obsidian attachment is an integrated water filter that sits directly on the Volcano. No external bubbler needed. Alternatively: whip + 14mm bong.
10. Plenty — from ~155 € across 46 shops
The Plenty has a unique cooling coil that pre-cools the vapor. With a third-party WPA adapter it can also connect to a bong. Large chamber, high throughput, ideal for group sessions with water.

What bong or bubbler do I need?
For vaporizers: smaller is better. Large bongs with lots of dead volume dilute the vapor. A compact bubbler with a 14mm joint and low water volume is ideal.
- Bubblers (recommended): Compact glass pieces with 14mm joint. 50-150 ml water volume is plenty.
- Small bongs: 20-30 cm height, 14mm joint. Works well with all WPA devices.
- Large bongs: Only makes sense with powerful desktops like the Volcano Hybrid or XQ2.
- Whip vs. direct: Some users connect via a silicone whip – more flexible, but vapor cools in the tube. Direct connection (WPA into bong) is more intense.
Tips for WPA use
- Water level: Just enough to cover the slits/holes. Too much water increases draw resistance and can splash into the device.
- Raise temperature: Set 5-10 °C higher than without water. The cooling compensates, and you get denser clouds.
- Clean regularly: Change water after every session. Clean glass parts with isopropyl alcohol every 1-2 weeks.
- Draw slowly: Don’t pull too hard. Slow, steady draws deliver the best vapor with water.
- Use dosing capsules: With S&B devices, dosing capsules keep the chamber clean and prevent material from falling into the WPA.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a special adapter for my vaporizer?
It depends on the device. Arizer vaporizers like the Air MAX and Solo 3 V2 have glass stems that fit directly into a 14mm joint – no adapter needed. For the Mighty+, Crafty+, and Venty, there is the official S&B WPA adapter. The DynaVap M7 fits 10mm natively, 14mm with the fat mouthpiece.
What joint size do I need?
14mm is the standard for most bubblers and smaller bongs. 18mm is found on larger water pipes. Most WPA adapters come in 14mm, and 18-to-14mm reducers cost just a few euros. The XQ2 has a native 18mm glass connection.
Does water make the vapor weaker?
Active compound absorption stays nearly identical. Water mainly filters particles and cools the vapor. You lose minimal flavor but gain significant comfort: less coughing, smoother draws, more pleasant sessions. Many users raise the temperature by 5-10 °C when using a WPA.
Can I use any vaporizer with a bong?
Not every one. Devices with fixed mouthpieces (e.g. PAX Mini) need third-party adapters that don’t always seal well. Best suited are devices with glass stems (Arizer), official WPA accessories (S&B), or native 10mm connections (DynaVap).
How often should I change the water?
After every session is ideal. Standing water gets unpleasant quickly and can develop bacteria. Clean the glass parts (bong, bubbler, WPA) with isopropyl alcohol every 1-2 weeks. Fresh water = best flavor.
Bottom line
- Best native WPA: Air MAX (59 €) or Solo 3 V2 (153 €) – glass stem directly into 14mm bong.
- Cheapest entry: DynaVap M7 (59 €) + small bubbler for under 80 euros total.
- Best desktop: Volcano Hybrid (396 €) with Obsidian attachment.
- Best portable with adapter: Venty (285 €) with S&B WPA.
