What the XQ2 Changes Compared to the Extreme Q
The XQ2 succeeds the Extreme Q and uses the same fundamental principle: heating tower, glass bowl on top, fan for balloon and whip. The Arizer comparison chart shows what has changed:

Temperature range (50–260 °C), auto-shutoff timer (30–120 minutes) and the 1- and 10-degree increments are identical on both. The biggest practical difference is the bowl: at 1.2 g it holds nearly twice as much, and the 0.2 g insert covers small portions.
Balloon or Whip: When to Use Which
The XQ2 operates in whip mode and balloon mode. In whip mode you draw through the 3-foot silicone whip (approximately 90 cm) or the short glass mini-whip; the fan can assist the draw or be switched off. In balloon mode the fan blows vapor into a bag, which you then detach and empty at your leisure. According to Arizer support the speeds are Low, Medium, High and off.
When to use which: the whip is the quicker option for one person at a desk. The balloon is worthwhile when sharing between several people or when you want to let the vapor cool. According to the product page the whip connection rotates 360 degrees, making passing easier.
Remote Control, Timer and Presets
The XQ2 has no app or Bluetooth. It is controlled via buttons on the unit and a programmable remote control with large buttons. According to Arizer, custom temperature presets can be saved on the remote; there is also a temperature alert, a delayed start and an auto-shutoff timer.
The timer can optionally be set between 30 and 120 minutes according to the comparison chart. The color display shows the temperature in real time; Arizer lists eight color options for the multi-color LEDs on the base and heater.
Glass Bowl, Air Filter and Initial Setup
The herb sits in a glass bowl (Connoisseur Bowl, two included) placed directly on the ceramic heating tower. Air is drawn in through a replaceable air filter, heated above the ceramic element and then flows through the material. Arizer recommends replacing the filter every four to six months.
Before first use, the unit should run for five to ten minutes at 220 °C without any material, according to support, so that residues from production can vaporize. Glass determines the flavor but is also the wear part: glass components are excluded from the warranty.

With a water filter it is worth setting the temperature a few degrees higher and running the fan at medium speed so that the draw does not become too heavy.
