What Are Dosing Capsules?
Dosing capsules are small metal inserts made from stainless steel or aluminum. Depending on the brand, they hold between 0.05 and 0.15 g of material. You fill the capsule at home, drop it into the heating chamber, vape, then pop it out when you are done. Simple idea, real difference in daily use: no loose material in the chamber, no crumbs, no tedious cleaning after every session.
Most capsules feature a fine mesh screen on both sides. Hot air (convection) or conducted heat passes evenly through the material inside. Think of it as a tiny, swappable oven insert for your vaporizer.
Benefits of Dosing Capsules
Anyone who uses a vaporizer daily will notice these improvements quickly:
- Clean heating chamber: Material never touches the chamber wall directly. Resin buildup and crumbs stay inside the capsule. The chamber stays clean for weeks or even months.
- Fast reloading on the go: Fill several capsules at home, toss them into a magazine or carrying case. Swapping one takes about 5 seconds — old capsule out, fresh one in, done.
- Consistent dosing: Every capsule holds the same amount. If you track your consumption, capsules give you a reliable unit of measure.
- Less cleaning effort: Instead of scrubbing the entire chamber with a brush and isopropyl alcohol, just knock out the used capsule and soak your capsules in alcohol occasionally.
- Discreet use: No fumbling with loose material in public. Insert capsule, vape, remove capsule — quick and low-key.
Drawbacks and Limitations
Dosing capsules are not perfect. A few things worth knowing:
- Slightly restricted airflow: The metal walls and mesh screens can increase draw resistance a touch. On most devices this is barely noticeable, but models with an already tight air path may feel it.
- Smaller chamber capacity: A capsule holds less than the bare chamber. The Mighty+ fits about 0.15 g in a capsule versus up to 0.25 g without one.
- Initial cost: A set of 40 capsules plus magazine from Storz & Bickel runs around 25-30 EUR. Not a fortune, but an extra expense.
- Not available for every device: Some vaporizers simply have no compatible capsules. And third-party capsules do not always fit perfectly.
Compatible Vaporizers with Dosing Capsules
Not every vaporizer supports dosing capsules. Here are the main devices and their capsule systems:
Storz & Bickel
The market leader in dosing capsules. All current S&B devices use the same capsule system — one capsule fits the Mighty+, Crafty+, VENTY, Volcano Hybrid and Plenty. The magazine holds 8 capsules and is about the size of a matchbox.
S&B also sells drip pads for concentrates and oils. These fit inside the standard capsule. The regular capsule holds about 0.15 g of dry material.
DynaVap
DynaVap devices like the M7, M7 XL, DynaVap B, B2 and G3 use their own capsules (called DynaVap Capsules). These are smaller than S&B capsules and hold roughly 0.05-0.08 g. Bonus: even less cleaning required because the CCD screens (Captive Condenser Disc) shield the material additionally.
Arizer
Arizer devices like the Air MAX, Solo 3, ArGo and Solo 2 MAX do not use traditional dosing capsules. Instead, they work with glass stems and stainless steel capsule adapters. Same concept: fill the adapter, insert it into the stem. Capacity is about 0.1 g.
Other Compatible Devices
- XMAX V3 Pro — uses its own dosing capsules (about 0.1 g), sold as an accessory set
- DaVinci IQ3 — uses DaVinci capsules that also fit older IQ models
- PAX Flow — uses PAX capsules designed for the 3D chamber system

Practical Tips for Dosing Capsules
- Prepare at home: Fill 5-8 capsules in one go and store them in the magazine or a small tin. Enough for a full day out.
- Fine grind works best: Dosing capsules perform best with fine to medium-fine ground material. Coarse pieces do not fit well and prevent even extraction.
- Do not overfill: Fill up to just below the rim without pressing or stuffing. Air needs to flow through the material.
- Clean regularly: Collect used capsules in a small container after emptying them. Once a week, soak all collected capsules in isopropyl alcohol (90%+) for 20 minutes and let them dry.
- Get a filling tool: If you swap capsules often, a small pair of tweezers or the official S&B filling set saves burned fingers.
