Only three materials come into contact with the vapour in the airpath: titanium, glass and ruby. All three are chemically inert at the temperatures used here and impart no flavour of their own. Plastic and adhesive do not come into contact with the vapour at any point — this is why ball vapes are considered the benchmark for flavour.

The Pro offers two operating modes. In Twisted mode, it operates with 155 ruby balls; the included Conversion Kit converts it into a conventional ball vape with 255 balls in three steps without tools. More balls mean greater thermal mass: The temperature drops less during long draws, although heating takes slightly longer. You are therefore buying both designs rather than just one.

A PID controller keeps the temperature constant. Unlike a simple dimmer, it actively regulates the heat: It measures the actual temperature, compares it with the setpoint and continuously adjusts the heating power. Once configured, no further adjustments are required during the session.

According to the manufacturer, the usable range is between 260 and 330 degrees Celsius. This refers to the temperature at the heating coil, not the vapour temperature — the vapour is considerably cooler when it reaches the mouth, particularly as it also passes through water. Common settings for herbs range between 260 and 330 degrees, while concentrates may require lower or higher temperatures depending on the material. The device takes around 45 seconds to become ready for use. Vapour is produced on demand: There is no session with a fixed endpoint, only as much vapour as you request at any given moment. The automatic shut-off is adjustable up to five hours.

A water pipe with a 14 or 18 millimetre joint is essential and is not included. You also need the Bowl that holds the material. CrossingTech offers several options: the Original Glass Bowl for normal loads, the Microdose Bowl for small portions and the Titanium Matrix Bowl. Depending on the Bowl, both herbs and concentrates can be used.

There are two things you should know beforehand. Firstly, the device needs a permanent location: It is connected by cable and is not intended for use on the go. Secondly, the heating head and Bowl become extremely hot during operation and remain exposed. The wooden handle and stainless-steel heat shield make them easier to handle, but the device should not be left unattended on a table in a household with children or pets.

The Pro version uses smaller ruby balls than the first series. This may sound like a minor detail, but it improves airflow through the chamber and therefore vapour production. It also features a handcrafted wooden handle, a thicker heat shield and a redesigned titanium Matrix Injector with a 20-millimetre Coil.

Owners of the first Ruby Twist do not need to buy a new device: the upgrade kit to the Pro swaps out the ruby fill for the Pro's 2.5 mm ruby balls (255 pieces) and includes two stainless steel screens. The wooden handle, thicker heat shield, and the redesigned Titan Matrix Injector are not included. The differences concern build quality and handling rather than the fundamental principle — both versions heat the same type of ruby chamber.

The Pro Kit comes complete. The housing is factory-fitted with 155 ruby balls measuring 2.5 millimetres, with a further 100 included as a refill pack — providing the 255 balls required for the conventional ball-vape configuration. It also includes the Micro-PID-Controller with power cable, the 20-mm heating coil with wooden handle and coil guard, the Coil Heat Stand and the Mini-SQP tool.

The included Bowl is the Micro Matrix Bowl with 14.4 and 18.8 millimetre connections. The conversion components include CNC-machined stainless-steel screens, mesh baskets and Viton O-rings, as well as a brush and stirring tool for cleaning. The only missing item is the water pipe — this is not included with any device of this type.
