The IO Hornet is a compact ball vape made from 316L stainless steel with 100 ruby balls (2.5 mm). It uses a 16 mm coil and delivers powerful convection hits through water. Compatible with 10 mm and 14 mm diffusers plus 14 mm and 22 mm injectors.
The IO Hornet is a desktop ball vaporizer from IO MFG (USA) with AC power. A stainless steel ball bed stores heat and transfers it evenly to the airflow passing through. Up to 288 °C, heat-up time approx. 30 seconds. Price from approx. 225 €.
Ball vaporizer principle
Stainless steel balls store heat and transfer it evenly to the inhaled air (convection). The result: extremely dense, consistent vapour clouds.
Research context: A study in the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Hazekamp et al., 2006) showed that vaporisation at controlled temperatures releases over 95 % of the desired active compounds, while largely avoiding combustion by-products. Source: PubMed 16637053
Mains power & performance
AC-powered heating element without a battery. Stepless control up to 288 °C. Heat-up time approx. 30 seconds.
Comparison & suitability
The IO Hornet is more affordable than the FlowerPot or Universal Baller, but offers a comparable ball vaporizer experience. Ideal for newcomers to the world of ball vaporizers.
With conduction, material is heated through direct contact with a hot surface. With convection, hot air flows through the material. Convection is considered more efficient and flavorful.
For optimal performance, we recommend light cleaning after each session and thorough cleaning with isopropyl alcohol every 1-2 weeks.
170-185C for light vapor, 185-200C for balanced effects, 200-210C for maximum extraction. Start low and work your way up.
