What the V2 changes inside the heater head
The key difference sits inside the head. The V1 works with 520 gem-cut rubies of 3 mm, the V2 with round ruby balls. Round balls pack more loosely than faceted stones, which opens up the airflow.
On the count itself, sources split: the maker, dampfklar and Cannabis Hardware state 280 balls at 3 mm, while UK specialist retailers and Herbware state 490 balls at 2.5 mm. Both work out to almost the same fill volume of roughly 7.6 cm³, which points to two production batches. The figure from the maker takes precedence.
On top of that comes an enlarged ruby chamber. It stores more energy, so the head holds temperature longer: for most users one heat cycle covers a full bowl before the head goes back into the coil for 30 to 60 seconds. Heating still runs through a 25 mm barrel coil, in the XL version on the V2.
Diffuser adapter: using bowls from other makers
The V1 was tied to its own accessories. The V2 ships with a pre-fitted 21.15 mm diffuser adapter for the included Matrix bowl, plus a 22.15 mm adapter ring.
That ring opens the head to diffuser bowls with a 22 mm fitment, as offered by Cannabis Hardware, Universal Baller and O’Connell Woodworks among others. If you already own glass from those systems, you can keep using it instead of building a second bowl collection.
The water-piece connection is unchanged: the titanium Matrix bowl carries male glass joints in 14.4 and 18.8 mm, with the 14.4 mm one fitted at the factory. No water piece is included. CrossingTech did add to the screens, though: alongside two flat mesh screens there is a height-adjustable basket screen that lets you match the chamber to smaller loads.
SS316 or titanium: which head suits you?
Unlike the V1, which shipped as a titanium head, the V2 comes in two materials. The difference is small but noticeable day to day:
- SS316 stainless steel — more mass and more stored heat. Vapour reads as denser and smoother, and big draws come easier. In exchange the head takes a little longer to reheat.
- Titanium (CP2) — lighter, reheats faster and draws the flavour more sharply. If terpenes are your priority, this is the one.
Retailers agree that both deliver good flavour; the differences are nuances, not classes apart. Stainless steel argues for heat reserve on long draws, titanium for taste and quick reheating.

V1 versus V2: is the upgrade worth it?
The V2 is a revision, not a new device. Both generations use the same Classic PID controller, the same handling and the same titanium Matrix bowl.
