Operation & Use

Dry herb is loaded into one of the four supplied glass aroma tubes: regular and XL tubes plus regular and XL 14 mm frosted tubes.

Session mode, on-demand mode, temperature and settings are controlled with the buttons and colour display on the device. There is no companion app. Arizer specifies a 5–15 second heat-up depending on the target temperature.

Charging uses USB-C Power Delivery and use while charging is supported. The internal battery is not user-replaceable; Arizer offers a manufacturer battery-replacement service.

Session Mode in Detail

Session mode is your standard operating mode for relaxed vaping sessions. After switching on, it takes only 15 seconds to reach the target temperature. The default session lasts 10 minutes, but you can set it anywhere between 5 and 20 minutes. There are also three customisable presets that you can call up with a double-click – perfect for different herbs or times of day. Temperature control works in real time and adapts to your draw style. If you draw hard, the Solo 3 detects the increased airflow and boosts heating to maintain the temperature. A smart strategy is temperature stepping: start at 185°C for flavour, bump up to 193°C after a few draws for balance, and finish the session at 205°C for maximum extraction. With an XL stem at 193°C, you get 4-6 fantastic draws with dense vapour and full flavour. After that, the flavour starts to fade, even if vapour is still coming. The AVB (Already Vaped Bud) comes out brown and crisp – a sign of excellent extraction with no green spots. Session mode is ideal for sharing or when you want to sit back and vape continuously.

On-Demand Mode in Detail

On-Demand mode is the big new feature on the Solo 3 and sets it apart from the Solo 2. Here, you start each inhalation separately – like a mini session. The display shows a progress bar and beeps when the temperature is reached. You then have a 10-second window to draw (adjustable between 5-25 seconds). After the draw, the device cools down immediately and preserves your material. The brilliant part: after one draw, you can put the device down and come back an hour later – the herb is preserved, not cooked through like in Session mode. There are five heating levels that are not adjustable, but fixed at 180°C, 185°C, 193°C, 205°C and 220°C. Per XL stem, you get 2-5 strong draws, depending on the heat level. On-Demand mode also allows intense single-hit extraction: set it to maximum temperature and a 25-second draw duration, and you can extract a full load in one long pull. That is especially interesting for water pipe use. The control is precise – no accidental overheating as with butane vaporizers. On-Demand mode makes the Solo 3 a versatile device that adapts to your consumption rhythm.

XL Glass Stems – Double Capacity

The Solo 3 comes with four glass stems: two straight ones (90mm regular + XL) and two water pipe adapters (regular + XL, with frosted tips). The XL stems are the highlight because they hold double the amount of herb – about 0.2g instead of 0.1g. That means more flavour, denser draws and a stronger effect per session. The XL stems make particular sense on the Solo 3 because the heating chamber is deeper than on the Solo 2 or Air MAX. On the Solo 2, the herb in XL stems sat too close to the seal, where there is no heat – on the Solo 3, it sits perfectly in the heating zone. The best way to load is directly from the grinder: twist the stem in the herb to fill it. From a jar: dip the stem in and twist. Then tamp it lightly with your finger, give it half a turn, and the herb should sit just below the lip – not too tight, or airflow suffers. The glass stems cool the vapour significantly. Heat is generated at the bottom of the stem (which is why the herb browns there first), and by the time the vapour reaches the top, it is pleasantly cool. The WPA stems have a frosted tip for better grip in the water pipe glass. Important: empty the stems immediately after the session, otherwise the AVB sticks to the glass. A brush for the glass holes keeps everything clean.

Display & Controls

The colour display is an upgrade over the Solo 2. It is brighter, sharper and has more colour levels. Brightness can be set from 1 to 5, and even at full brightness battery consumption is minimal. Operation is via three buttons: power, left, right. To unlock the device, hold power for three seconds, then press left-up-right in that order. On the mode selection screen, you choose Session or On-Demand. Double-clicking a button brings up the three customisable presets. Holding the right button opens the settings menu: draw duration (5-25s), Celsius/Fahrenheit, notifications, brightness, display inversion and auto shut-off (5-20 minutes). Display inversion is a clever feature: when you turn the Solo 3 upside down for water pipe use (stem pointing down), the device detects the orientation and rotates the display automatically. The button functions rotate as well – what used to be "left" is now "right". That makes operation intuitive, whatever the position. Overall, the UI is well thought out and after a few sessions you know where everything is.

Heating & Vapour Quality

The Solo 3 uses an 80% convection / 20% conduction hybrid heater. The conduction keeps the glass warm, but the actual extraction happens through convective heat while drawing. This balance is ideal: the glass is preheated, but the herb does not char between draws as it would with pure conduction. Real-time temperature control is based on airflow: if you draw hard, the device boosts heating to maintain the temperature. If you draw gently, it holds naturally. The AVB comes out brown and crisp – a sign of complete extraction. No green spots, no wasted cannabinoids. The heat comes from the bottom of the stem, which is why the bottom of the herb browns first. The sweet spot is 193°C (380°F). Below that, the AVB stays just brown; above it, the bottom turns blackish. At 193°C, you get maximum flavour, dense clouds and clean AVB. The glass stems cool the vapour significantly – by the time it reaches your lips, it is pleasant. The first 4-6 draws in Session mode are outstanding in flavour; after that, the intensity fades even if vapour is still coming. Drawing slowly ("sip don't rip") is the best technique.

Water Pipe Use

The Solo 3 comes with two water pipe adapters (WPA): regular and XL, both with frosted glass tips for better grip. The WPAs fit any 14mm bubbler. If you turn the Solo 3 upside down (stem pointing down into the water pipe), the device detects the inversion and rotates the display automatically. The button functions rotate as well, so "left" is now "right" and vice versa – very well thought out. For water pipe use, On-Demand mode is recommended. Set a high temperature (205-220°C) and a long draw duration (20-25s), then you can take intense, dense pulls. The water further filters the vapour, so even high temperatures remain pleasant. You can even extract a full load in a single draw if you pull for 25 seconds at maximum level. The XL WPA stems are especially strong here because they hold double the amount of herb. That means more material for your bubbler session. One tip: let the device sit for 10-20 seconds after reaching temperature before you draw – that gives you a denser first hit. The combination of Solo 3 and water pipe is a match made in heaven: precise temperature control, strong extraction, smooth vapour.

Tips for the Solo 3

1. Draw slowly: "Sip don't rip" is the rule. Slow, steady draws give convection time to extract the herb. Fast, forceful pulls may not maintain the temperature. 2. Inhale during heat-up: As soon as you start "Heat", you can already draw lightly. Terpenes vaporise first at lower temperatures – you get an intense flavour hit before the target temperature is reached. 3. Wait 10-20 seconds: Once the target temperature is reached, wait briefly before taking the first draw. The herb and the glass need a moment to absorb the heat evenly. The first draw will then be denser. 4. Empty the stems immediately: After the session, tap the AVB out of the stem while it is still warm. Once it cools, it sticks to the glass and is harder to remove. 5. Brush for the glass holes: A small brush (often included) cleans the screen holes in the stem. That keeps airflow optimal. 6. Do not overpack: The herb should sit just below the lip of the stem. If it touches the heating element, it sticks fast and airflow suffers. 7. A completely drained battery is the most common cause: the Solo 3 V2 will not operate until it has some charge. How long is the Solo 3 heat-up time? +

The Solo 3 heats up in 5-15 seconds, depending on the target temperature. At 193°C, it takes around 10-12 seconds. That is twice as fast as the Solo 2 (30 seconds).

What is the difference between Session mode and On-Demand mode? +

In Session mode, you get a continuous 5-20-minute session at a constant temperature. In On-Demand mode, you start each inhalation individually – the device heats up, you draw, then it cools down. On-Demand preserves your material between draws.

How many draws do I get from one load? +

With an XL stem at 193°C, you get 4-6 strong draws in Session mode. In On-Demand mode, it is 2-5 draws per load, depending on the heat level. The regular stems hold about half that.

Can I use the XL stems with the Solo 2 as well? +

Technically yes, but it makes little sense. The Solo 2 heating chamber is shallower, so the herb in XL stems sits too close to the seal, where there is no heat. On the Solo 3, the chamber is deeper – XL stems work perfectly.

How long does the battery last? +

Arizer advertises up to three hours of use per charge. Actual runtime depends on mode, temperature and session length. The internal battery is not user-replaceable; Arizer offers a replacement service.

Which temperature is best? +

193°C (380°F) is the sweet spot according to users and reviews. Below that, the AVB stays just brown; above it, the bottom turns blackish. At 193°C, you get maximum flavour, dense clouds and clean AVB.

Can I use the Solo 3 with a water pipe? +

Yes, two WPA stems (regular + XL) are included. They fit 14mm bubblers. The display rotates automatically when you turn the device upside down. On-Demand mode is ideal for water pipes.

How do I clean the glass stems? +

Empty the stems immediately after the session while they are still warm. Clean the screen holes with a brush. For deeper cleaning: soak the stems in isopropyl alcohol, then rinse with warm water.

Is the Solo 3 pocket-friendly? +

At 280 g and 130 mm tall, Solo 3 V2 is better carried in a bag or jacket than in a tight trouser pocket. The body measures 49 × 32 × 130 mm, and the glass tube also needs protection in transit.

Can I vape while charging? +

Yes, pass-through charging is supported. You can keep the Solo 3 plugged in via USB-C and use it at the same time. It is not the best thing for the battery, but it works.

What does 80/20 hybrid heating mean? +

80% of the heating is done by convection (hot air while drawing), 20% by conduction (contact with the warm glass). The conduction keeps the glass preheated, while convection extracts during the draw. That is the ideal balance.

How much herb fits in the stems? +

The regular stems hold about 0.1g, while the XL stems hold about 0.2g. The XL version has double the capacity and accordingly delivers more vapour and effect per session.
