What is the Venty actually?

In September 2023, Storz & Bickel introduced the Venty. The German manufacturer from Tuttlingen, known for the Mighty and the Volcano, has brought a completely new device onto the market for the first time in years. No facelift, no Plus model. A new design from the ground up.

The Venty is a portable vaporizer with hybrid heating. This means: It combines convection (hot air) with conduction (direct heat transfer). This mixture ensures even extraction – the herbs are heated not just from one side, but all around.

On paper, this sounds like a solid update. In practice, S&B has created a vaporizer that is controversial in the community. Not because of poor quality, but because it meets some expectations and disappoints others. More on that in a moment.

First impression and processing

The first thing you notice: The Venty is smaller than the Mighty+. Significantly smaller. At 137 grams, it feels light in the hand, almost like a remote control. The case is made of matte plastic with a rubberized surface on the back. No fingerprints, good grip. Feels solid, although not as indestructible as a Mighty.

The OLED display sits on the side and shows temperature, battery level and active mode. Two buttons are enough for complete operation. The workmanship is clean – no sharp edges, no creaking, no gap to disturb. S&B typical.

In the scope of delivery you will find:

  • Den Venty itself
  • USB-C charging cable
  • Cleaning brush and tool
  • A set of replacement screens
  • Dosing capsule adapter
  • Quick Guide

What’s missing: a charger. You need a USB-C power supply with at least 20W – any reasonably current smartphone charger will work. Leaving out the power supply is now standard and not a point of criticism.

Haptics and size in everyday life

The Venty fits in a jacket pocket. Not in a tight jeans pocket, at least not comfortably. It is significantly more manageable than its big brother, but is not a stealth device. If you’re looking for maximum discretion, it’s better to choose the PAX Four or XMAX V3 Pro.

What I like: The surface temperature remains low. Even after three sessions in a row, the case only gets lukewarm. Things were different with the Mighty+ – the underside could become uncomfortably warm after long periods of use.

The mouthpiece can be rotated 90 degrees – so you can stand the Venty upright without the mouthpiece touching the table. A small thing, but practical in everyday life. The ceramic chamber has a smooth coating to which hardly any material sticks. After a session, a quick emptying and brushing is usually enough.

Another detail that is rarely mentioned: The Venty has no odor protection. When it’s turned off, you can smell the remains of the last session if you get close enough. This is the case with all session vaporizers, but if you transport the device in a bag with other things, you should use a protective cover or a container.

Steam quality — the heart of

This is where things get serious. And here the Venty delivers.

The hybrid heater works at temperatures between 40°C and 210°C. The sweet spot for most users is 180-195°C — that’s where you get flavorful, dense vapor without a burnt aftertaste. From 200°C it becomes more intense, thicker clouds, stronger extraction. Above 205°C it quickly tastes harsh.

The real game changer is the adjustable airflow. There is a rotating ring on the mouthpiece that regulates the air resistance. Half closed: slow draws, concentrated flavor, less vapor. Fully open: free airflow, big clouds, easier pulling.

That sounds like a small feature. It’s not. The airflow changes the entire vaping experience. If you like to sip on a device, you have a restrictive setting. If you want quick, full sessions, turn it up. No other portable vaporizer in this price range has this flexibility.

Temperature tips for different materials

Not every material needs the same temperature. After several months of use I have collected a few guidelines:

  • 175-185°C: Light, flavorful vapor. This is where you can taste the terpenes most clearly. Perfect for aromatic herbs and if you want to take it slow.
  • 185-195°C: The sweet spot for most users. Good balance between taste and effect. Dense, visible vapor clouds.
  • 195-205°C: Intensive. Strong extraction, thicker vapor, less flavor nuances. Good for herbs that have already had a session (second round).
  • 205-210°C: maximum. Works, but the taste suffers. Some users find it too harsh. A water filter adapter.
  • helps here

A trick from the community: Start at 180°C and increase by 5 degrees every 2-3 moves. This way you get the taste first and the intensity at the end. The “Custom Sessions” app function automates exactly that.

Taste and efficiency

The first two to three puffs at 185°C taste excellent. Clear, aromatic, with the typical terpene profile of the respective herbs. The hybrid approach ensures that the material in the middle of the chamber is heated evenly – a problem that pure conduction devices often have.

The efficiency is good, but not outstanding. Per chamber you need about 0.15 g (without dosing capsules) or 0.1 g with capsules. A session for me lasts 5-8 minutes, depending on the temperature and pulling technique. In the Reddit community r/vaporents, the efficiency is rated as “good, but not at TinyMight levels.” Fair enough.

Session device, not on-demand

A point that many beginners don’t know: The Venty is a Session vaporizer. You turn it on, it heats up, you steam the chamber empty in one sitting. It’s not designed to take a single puff and then put it in your pocket. There are on-demand devices like the TinyMight 2 or the Firefly 2+.

This isn’t a disadvantage — it’s a design decision. Session vaporizers are easier to use, produce consistent vapor, and are a better choice for most users. But you should know before you buy.

Steam through water — the bong test

With the optional water filter adapter, the Venty can be connected to a bong or bubbler. And this is where things get really good. The steam at 200°C+, which is borderline harsh in its pure form, becomes soft and cool due to the water. You hardly notice how much you breathe in.

The adapter fits standard cuts (14mm and 18mm). The connection is tight, nothing wobbles. In the r/vaporents community, “Venty through water” is one of the most common recommendations – not just for the Venty, but especially for it because the high vapor production through water really comes into its own.

If you’ve never used a vaporizer with a water filter: the difference is drastic. Smoother vapor, cooler temperature, less throat irritation. A different level, especially for evening sessions.

A battery and charging time

The Venty has a 3000 mAh battery. In practice, this is enough for 8-12 sessions per charge, depending on the set temperature. At 185°C I get around 10-11 sessions. At 210°C more like 7-8. This is very neat for a portable vaporizer.

For comparison: The Mighty+ manages a similar number of sessions, but is also larger. The PAX Four only lasts 4-6 sessions with its 1300 mAh. The Crafty+ is 5-7. The Venty therefore offers the best ratio of battery capacity to device size.

USB-C loading and passthrough

Finally USB-C. After years with Micro-USB on the Mighty, S&B has made the move. The charging time is about 40 minutes from 0 to 80%, full charge in just over an hour. Fast enough.

The best feature: no Passthrough Charging. You cannot use the Venty while it is charging — the battery needs to be fully charged first. For passthrough, you need the Mighty+. In practice this is rarely an issue since charge time is only ~60 minutes.

One restriction: The battery is not replaceable. If you want to take a second battery with you on the go, you’re out of luck. At 3000 mAh this is rarely a problem in practice – but it can be relevant for power users on trips lasting several days.

Die Storz & Bickel App

S&B offers a companion app for iOS and Android. The connection runs via Bluetooth Low Energy, pairing takes a few seconds.

What the app can do:

  • Set the temperature to the exact degree (only in 1°C increments on the device, the same way via the app – but more convenient)
  • Superboost mode activate: +20°C above the set temperature for the last moves
  • Custom Sessions create: temperature curves with start and end temperatures that automatically ramp up
  • Install firmware updates
  • Operating hours and viewing charging cycles

In practice, I rarely use the app. The operation of the device itself is intuitive enough. The Superboost is nice for the final extraction, but not a must. The Custom Sessions are the most useful feature — once set, the temperature automatically ramps up from 180°C to 200°C. Perfect for people who don’t want to deal with manual temperature control.

A word about privacy: The app requests location access (for Bluetooth). You can decline this and still use most features. The firmware updates are relevant, however — S&B released several updates in the first few months after release that actually improved performance.

Superboost – what’s the point?

The app has a feature called “Superboost”. The temperature is raised by +20°C for the last moves of a session. Idea: Get the last residues out of the material that are not extracted at normal temperature.

In practice, the Superboost produces denser clouds at the end of the session, but the taste is usually already gone. More of an “okay, there’s something else to come” moment than a highlight. For some users, it’s still a nice extra – especially if you really want to get everything out of a chamber.

Dosing capsules and accessories

The Venty is compatible with the Storz & Bickel capsule system. These are small stainless steel capsules that you fill beforehand and then simply insert into the chamber. Three advantages:

  1. Cleanliness: The chamber remains virtually immaculate. No plant material, no resin, no scrubbing.
  2. Portioning: Each capsule holds ~0.1 g. Ideal for microdosers or people who want to have multiple varieties on hand.
  3. Speed: Capsule in, done. No filling, no plugging. Unbeatable on the go.

The capsules cost depending on the pack size 0.50-1.00 EUR per piece. A set of 40 costs 15-25 EUR. The magazine system (8 capsules in a row) costs extra, but is worth its weight in gold for on the go.

Other accessories that are worth it:

  • Water filter adapter: For connecting to a bong or water pipe. Significantly cools the steam. Almost mandatory on r/vaporents.
  • Wear & Tear Set: replacement screens and O-rings. Due after 6-12 months.
  • Stand: Sounds unnecessary, but it’s practical – the Venty tilts on smooth surfaces.

Cleaning and maintenance

A vaporizer that is not cleaned will taste like an ashtray after 20 sessions. This applies to all devices, but it is particularly important for session vaporizers because the chamber is permanently at temperature.

Weekly cleaning (5 minutes)

Disconnect the cooling unit. Soak in isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%), wait 10-15 minutes. Go through with the brush, rinse, let dry. Wipe out the chamber itself with a cotton swab soaked in isopropanol. Done.

S&B has simplified the cooling unit on the Venty compared to the Mighty+. Fewer parts, easier to disassemble, quicker to clean. A clear progress.

Monthly Maintenance

You should replace the screens every 4-6 weeks. The fine sieve in the chamber and the sieve in the cooling unit. Costs almost nothing, but makes a noticeable difference in taste and draw resistance.

Check the O-rings. If they become brittle or no longer fit tightly, replace them. They usually last 6-12 months.

What you shouldn’t do

Do not pour alcohol into the chamber or onto electronic parts. No dishwasher for the cooling unit (even though some people say so on the internet). No sharp metal tools in the chamber — the ceramic coating is more delicate than it looks.

If you use dosing capsules, you save 80% of the cleaning work. The material has no direct contact with the chamber, and the capsules themselves can be soaked in alcohol and cleaned in minutes.

Comparison with the competition

Venty vs Mighty+

The most common question in every forum. And the honest answer: For most users, the difference is smaller than expected.

The Mighty+ costs less (from ~170 EUR vs ~183 EUR), has a similarly sized battery (3000 mAh) and produces comparable vapor. It is proven, has been on the market for years, sold millions of times. The vapor quality is on the same level — if you test both blindly, you won’t taste a dramatic difference.

The Venty is more compact (137 g vs 230 g), heats up three times faster (20 instead of 60 seconds), has USB-C instead of micro-USB, app control and adjustable airflow. These are real improvements that are noticeable in everyday life. 60 seconds of warm-up time doesn’t sound like much until you’re used to 20 seconds – then you won’t want to go back.

My conclusion: If you already have the Mighty+, you don’t need to upgrade. If you buy new and can invest 30 EUR more, you can choose the Venty. It is simply the more modern device.

Venty vs Crafty+

The Crafty+ is the little brother – even more compact than the Venty, but with significantly less battery (3000 mAh). For people who want maximum portability and rarely need more than 4-5 sessions. The Venty is superior in every other way.

Venty vs TinyMight 2

Completely different philosophy. The TinyMight 2 is an on-demand convection vaporizer from Finland — handcrafted, pure taste, replaceable battery. But more expensive, less user-friendly and without an app. On r/vaporents the TinyMight 2 is often rated as “better for enthusiasts” and the Venty as “better for everyone else”.

Venty vs PAX Four

The PAX Four is flatter, lighter, more discreet. The Venty has twice the battery, better vapor and more features. If you want a device that disappears in your shirt pocket, take the PAX. If you want performance, the Venty. You can find a detailed comparison in our PAX Four vs Venty comparison.

What the community says

The Venty is a constant topic on r/vaporents, the largest vaporizer forum on Reddit. The opinions are differentiated – here are the most common points that come up again and again:

What is praised

  • Airflow control: “Finally an S&B device where I can adjust the draw resistance” — a comment that appears similar to this a dozen times.
  • Heating time: 20 seconds instead of 60 for the Mighty+. For many the most convincing upgrade.
  • Construction quality: “S&B quality as you know it.” Few complaints about manufacturing defects.
  • Capsule compatibility: If you switch from Mighty, you can continue to use your existing capsules.

What is criticized

  • Price: Just under 400 EUR upon release – too expensive for many when the Mighty+ delivers the same vapor for less. The price has now fallen significantly.
  • Plastic mouthpiece: Some users would have liked a glass or ceramic mouthpiece.
  • Only 210°C maximum: Some users who like to vape at 220°C+ feel restricted. In practice, 210°C is more than enough for 95% of all users.
  • No replaceable battery: A minus point for power users. But bearable at 3000 mAh.

Overall, the Venty is traded on r/vaporents as a Top 3 session vaporizer, along with the Mighty+ and the TinyMight 2. For beginners, it is often mentioned as the first recommendation – easy to use, reliable, good vapor.

Warranty and service

Storz & As standard, Bickel gives a 2 year warranty. By registering on the S&B website you will receive an extension to 3 years. This is above average in the industry — most manufacturers offer 1-2 years.

S&B’s customer service has a good reputation in the community. Defective devices are usually replaced quickly. Even after the warranty period, S&B offers repairs – but not free of charge.

What the warranty covers: Material defects, battery defects, electronic problems. What it doesn’t cover: fall damage, moisture damage, normal wear and tear (O-rings, screens). The standard procedure.

One tip: keep the proof of purchase and register the device on the S&B website within the first two weeks. You can find the serial number on the bottom of the device and in the app under “Device information”. Registration takes two minutes and gives you an extra year of warranty.

Long-term experience — after 6+ months

Many reviews test a device for two weeks and then write down their opinion. But the exciting things only happen after months. Here are a few observations from long-term use:

ABattery degradation: After 6-8 months of daily use (2-3 sessions/day) there is no noticeable loss of capacity. The Venty still manages its 8-10 sessions. Lithium-ion batteries typically lose capacity noticeably after 300-500 cycles – with normal use this takes 1-2 years.

Ceramic chamber: Holds up well. No discoloration, no material degradation. With regular cleaning, the chamber will look like new after six months. If you vape without capsules and rarely clean, you will get a dark layer that can be removed with isopropanol.

Cooling unit: The only wearing part that actually ages. The seals become slightly less elastic after 4-6 months. No drama — a wear & Tear Set for under 10 EUR solves the problem. The tensile resistance remains constant with fresh seals.

Mouthpiece: Will become slightly discolored over time. Cleaning helps, but after a year you can see the signs of wear. A replacement mouthpiece costs 5-8 EUR.

Overall: The Venty is just as good after six months as it was on the first day. Provided you clean it regularly. Without cleaning, every vaporizer will break down – the Venty is no exception.

Who is the Venty suitable for?

Ideal for

  • Beginners who want an uncomplicated, reliable device. Switch on, set the temperature, steam. No learning effort.
  • Mighty upgraders who are looking for a more compact device with a faster heat-up time.
  • Microdosers, which work with dosing capsules and only use 0.1 g per session.
  • Water filter users who want to send the vapor through a bong.
  • Heavy steamers that need 8-12 sessions per battery charge.

Less suitable for

  • On-demand users: If you just want to take a quick single hit, you’re better off with a TinyMight, Firefly or Butane vaporizer.
  • Stealth User: The Venty is compact, but not invisible. PAX Four or XMAX V3 Pro are more discreet.
  • Budget buyer: There are solid alternatives for under 100 EUR such as the XMAX V3 Pro or the Flowermate V5 Nano. The Venty plays in a higher league.
  • Taste purists: If you want pure convection taste, go for the TinyMight 2 or Tinymight.

Tips for beginners – this is how you get the most out of it

If you buy the Venty as your first vaporizer, you’ll make a few typical beginner mistakes. Here are the most common ones – and how to avoid them.

Grind too finely. Many beginners pulverize their material because they think finer = better results. With the Venty the opposite is the case. A medium grind works best. Too fine and the sieves will clog more quickly and the steam will be harsh. A simple 2-piece grinder is sufficient.

Cell the chamber too tightly. Fill loosely, press lightly – do not press. The hot air must be able to flow through the material. If the chamber is too full, convection will suffer and you will get uneven extraction.

Pull too quickly. The Venty is not a straw. Slow, consistent puffs of 5-8 seconds produce the best vapor. Hectic drawing cools the chamber and reduces vapor production. With the airflow half closed it is easier to control.

Do not let it preheat. Yes, the Venty heats up in 20 seconds. However, it is still worth waiting 5-10 seconds after the beep before taking your first puff. The chamber is then at a more even temperature, and the first puff delivers good steam instead of just warm air.

Throw away

ABV immediately. ABV (Already Been Vaped) – the material after vaping – is not worthless. It still has residual activity and can be used for edibles or tea. Many users collect their ABV in a glass. Whether this is relevant to you depends on your usage, but it’s good to know.

Conclusion: Is the Venty worth it?

Yes. But not for everyone.

If you’re looking for a reliable session vaporizer that produces good vapor, lasts a long time and is easy to use – the Venty delivers. The hybrid heating works, the airflow gives you control, the dosing pods keep everything clean, and 3000 mAh is enough for a whole day.

With the Venty,

S&B has not created a revolution, but rather an evolution. Everything that was good about the Mighty was retained. The weaknesses (size, warm-up time, USB port) have been fixed. Added a few new features. The result is a well-rounded device without any obvious weaknesses.

The price was excessive upon release. You can now get the Venty ab ~183 EUR – which puts it in a range that is fair for the quality offered. Not cheap, but adequate.

My advice: Check out the price comparison below . Prices vary greatly between shops and regions. There are regular offers where the Venty falls well below EUR 250. If you’re patient, you’ll save a lot.

Frequently asked questions about the Venty

How long does the battery last on the Venty?

At moderate temperatures (185°C) you can manage 10-11 sessions per charge. At maximum temperature (210°C) it is 7-8. In most cases this is enough for a full day.

Does the Venty work with Mighty dosing capsules?

Yes. The capsule system is identical. Anyone who switches from the Mighty or Crafty can continue to use their existing capsules and magazines.

Is the Venty better than the Mighty+?

Technically yes — faster heat-up time, USB-C, airflow control, app, smaller. The steam quality is comparable. The Mighty+ costs less and is completely sufficient for many users. If you want the latest, go for the Venty. If you want to save money, the Mighty+.

Can I use the Venty on a bong?

Yes. With the water filter adapter from S&B, the Venty fits 14mm and 18mm sections. The community expressly recommends this – the cooled vapor is much more pleasant at high temperatures.

How often do I have to clean the Venty?

Soak the cooling unit in isopropyl alcohol once a week. Brush the chamber briefly after each session. Significantly less cleaning effort with dosing capsules. Replace screens every 4-6 weeks.

Is the app worth it?

For firmware updates definitely. For custom sessions (automatic temperature curves) too. Not for daily use — the operation of the device is intuitive enough.

How long does a Venty last with daily use?

With regular cleaning and normal use, you can expect 3-5 years before the battery noticeably deteriorates. Experience has shown that the mechanics and electronics last longer. Storz & Bickel also offers repairs after the warranty period. Wear parts such as seals and sieves only cost a few euros and should be replaced every few months.

Are there alternatives under 150 EUR?

Yes. The XMAX V3 Pro (from ~80 EUR) is the best budget vaporizer with convection. The Flowermate V5 Nano costs ~90 EUR. Both deliver good vapor, but cannot keep up with the Venty in terms of workmanship or battery performance. If you’re willing to spend 150-180 EUR, the Crafty+ is an alternative from the S&B universe – same capsules, same quality, smaller battery.

Which is better: with or without dosing capsules?

Without capsules, a little more material fits into the chamber (0.15 g instead of 0.1 g) and the vapor is slightly denser. With capsules you save 80% of the cleaning, you can prepare several types and have less effort on the go. I don’t use capsules at home, I always use them when I’m out and about. Most long-term users do the same thing.
