MAD Heaters TEMPEST 2 is a ball vape made of grade-5 titanium with no battery, whose heat is stored by zirconium oxide balls. It is heated with a jet flame or induction heater; for titanium caps with zirconia in the YLL 3.0 at 80 watts, MAD Heaters quotes 35 to 40 seconds. The chamber can be set to approximately 0.1, 0.15 or 0.2 g, and WPA connections are available for 10, 14 and 18 mm.
Three chamber positions, a visual indicator, and two click discs enable different heating and draw profiles. MAD Heaters lists WPA compatibility with 10 / 14 / 18 mm as well as the iSpire Wand and YLL 3.0 as suitable induction heaters. A universal heating time or digitally measured material temperature has not been published. You can find current offers in the TEMPEST 2 price comparison.

The zirconium oxide balls inside the heater head form a thermal matrix: They store energy from the external heat source and heat the airflow passing through them. MAD Heaters describes the heating method as convection-heavy. We do not interpret this as either pure convection heating or measured equivalence to a desktop device.
Zirconia and ruby are different ball materials. The standard zirconia balls can be replaced with other suitable thermal media; this changes heat absorption and the required heating settings. The manufacturer's table must match the actual ball material and Cap material.

The main construction is made from Grade-5 titanium. Exceptions include the stainless-steel induction sleeve, indicator housing, indicators, and screens. The Heat Shield is made from anodized aluminum as standard; variants with “Wood” or “Ti” in their names use a different Heat Shield material.
The published weights are 46 g with an aluminum Heat Shield and 43 g with a wood Heat Shield, at 122 mm long and 18.5 mm in diameter. The product page does not specify a separate weight for versions with a titanium Heat Shield. The material designation does not establish medical certification or a blanket absence of harmful substances.
The three screen positions set the chamber to approximately 0.1 g, 0.15 g, or 0.2 g. These are approximate values: grind size, density, and packing affect the actual mass.

MAD Heaters documents operation with a suitable torch as well as with the iSpire Wand and YLL 3.0. For torch heating, the manual specifies dual-, triple-, or medium-sized single-flame models. A universal heat-up time of 10–20 seconds for all setups has not been published.
When using a torch, hold the flame tip approximately 1 cm away from the cap and slowly rotate the device. The click discs and visual indicator assist with operation; the indicators must not be heated directly. When reheating, stop one marker earlier than during the first cycle.
With the YLL 3.0, use the wattage/time combination appropriate for the ball and cap materials. For example, the manual specifies 80 W and 35–40 s for titanium caps with zirconia when starting from room temperature. Induction replaces the flame, but it does not eliminate the need to adjust depth, power, and time.

Check the opening of the Ispire The Wand before purchasing: MAD Heaters notes that some Ispire The Wand units are too narrow for the TEMPEST 2. The opening must be at least 14.0 mm wide. If the cap fits tightly in the glass with no clearance, this combination should not be used because the glass may break when heated. Its general listing as a compatible heater therefore does not replace checking the specific unit. TEMPEST 2 manufacturer notice.
For the YLL 3.0, the TEMPEST manual describes a heating cycle until the configured timeout. This does not indicate temperature-controlled continuous heating during inhalation, nor does it provide evidence of two TEMPEST operating modes with short energy pulses. The TEMPEST 2 itself has neither a battery nor electronic temperature control.
For the MAD Heaters version of the YLL 3.0, place the included 3-mm spacer on the silicone pad at the bottom of the heating chamber. After inserting the battery cover, use the TEMPEST cap while the heater is switched off to press the pad and ceramic disc down onto the spacer; this creates the appropriate depth.
For titanium caps with zirconia, the table lists, among other settings, 60 W for 45–50 s and 80 W for 35–40 s. If the cap is still warm, subtract 8–12 s from the timer; the wattage remains the same. The complete setup instructions are available on our YLL 3.0 page.
Source: MAD Heaters.
The product page specifies WPA compatibility with 10 mm, 14 mm, and 18 mm. This covers several common water filter connections. Check the actual fit and the specific water filter version; the size specification does not guarantee compatibility with every third-party accessory.
The manufacturer also describes adjustable airflow at the cap and stem. The heat profile depends on the setup, load, and draw speed. We therefore do not publish a fixed material temperature or a universal temperature value for water filtration.
Source: MAD Heaters.
The TEMPEST 2 has three chamber positions, two click discs, a visual heat indicator, and documented compatibility with the iSpire Wand and YLL 3.0. The weight depends on the Heat Shield: 46 g with aluminum and 43 g with wood.
For a comparison with the Vestratto Tornado, you should compare the actual configuration, heat source, chamber, and water filter fit. We do not infer identical measured flavor, a universal weight ranking, or unverified Tornado specifications from this TEMPEST data.

MAD Heaters recommends deep cleaning before first use and after approximately 100 bowls. The fully assembled device is soaked without the wooden Heat Shield in 99 % isopropyl alcohol for at least 30 minutes; the additional rinsing, disassembly, and drying steps are provided in the manual. Wood is expressly excluded from immersion cleaning.
Quick cleaning is recommended after approximately 30 bowls: the cooling spiral and stem are cleaned with isopropyl alcohol or a soaked cotton swab, while the mouthpiece and outer chamber are cleaned with a water-based wipe. After cleaning, any cleaning-agent residue must be removed and the parts must be completely dry.
For the balls, the manual describes separate cleaning after approximately 300 bowls. Excessive temperatures must be avoided with glass media. Indicators, balls, and O-rings are not generally described as indestructible or serviceable without tools; the applicable manufacturer instructions must be followed for disassembly and reassembly.

The TEMPEST 2 versions differ in color and Heat Shield material. The current product page lists aluminum, wood, and correspondingly designated titanium Heat Shields. The published weight is 46 g with aluminum or 43 g with wood; no separate weight is provided for titanium Heat Shields. The variants are therefore not identical in every specification.
The compatible YLL 3.0 is a separate induction heater. Our YLL page explains the TEMPEST 2 setup with the spacer, wattage/time values, and the shorter heating time with a warm cap. The TEMPEST 2 Bundle combines the vaporizer, heater, and additional accessories.
Source: MAD Heaters.
When purchasing the TEMPEST 2 by itself, you get the vaporizer and its accessory package; you must provide an external heat source. The Bundle additionally includes, among other items, Reload 3, Tempest Case, YLL 3.0 without batteries and with a 3-mm spacer, Titanium Heater Core, ruby/quartz/SiC balls, and an additional High-Cooling-Unit.
Whether the Bundle costs less depends on current store prices, the complete package contents, and the parts you already own. A fixed savings amount in EUR cannot be substantiated without simultaneously comparing identical configurations. Use the current price comparisons for the TEMPEST 2 and Bundle.

MAD Heaters lists the following for the standalone TEMPEST 2: the device with 3-mm zirconia balls in the heating head and a Medium-(Long)-Cooling-Unit, four replacement O-rings, two Bowl Screens, two Ball Screens, a tube for adjusting the Bowl Screen, Bowl Screen Tool, additional zirconia balls, and a 2-mm screwdriver bit.
The four replacement O-rings consist of three measuring 6 × 1 mm and one measuring 8 × 1 mm. A cleaning brush is not included in the published package contents. A jet lighter, induction heater, and batteries are not listed as included with the standalone device. Check the specific configuration in retailer listings.

The current MAD Heaters policy specifies a one-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, unless otherwise stated on the product page. According to the policy, this also applies to the YLL induction heater. A blanket two-year warranty for the TEMPEST 2 is not substantiated there.
Misuse, accidents, modifications, and normal wear and tear are excluded. A claim may require photos or videos and, where applicable, returning the product for inspection. The current terms and the respective product page are authoritative.
Source: MAD Heaters.
The disadvantages include the need for manual adjustment, an additional heat source, and the lack of digital material-temperature measurement. The price depends on the store and version. No claim is made regarding medical certification, guaranteed equivalence to a desktop device, or fixed guaranteed savings.

Brief conclusion: The TEMPEST 2 is primarily appealing to experienced users looking for a manually heated ball vaporizer that MAD Heaters describes as “convection-heavy” and that offers numerous adjustment options. It has two click discs and a visual heat indicator, three adjustable bowl levels, and separately adjustable cap and stem airflow. It can be used with a torch and the documented iSpire Wand and YLL 3.0 induction heaters. Anyone expecting an automatically controlled target temperature, a straightforward one-button device, or a consistently reproducible heating time should instead choose an electronically controlled model.
The TEMPEST 2 suits users who deliberately want to fine-tune a mechanically oriented system. MAD Heaters describes a thermal matrix filled with zirconia balls and positions the device as convection-heavy and ball-assisted. “Pure convection” would be a stronger claim than the manufacturer's current wording. How the balance between hot airflow and stored heat behaves during actual use depends on factors including the ball material, heating power, heating duration, load, and draw profile.
The three screen positions change the usable bowl volume to approximately 0.6, 0.9, or 1.2 cm³. MAD Heaters associates these levels with approximately 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20 g. These weight figures are approximations because density, moisture, and grind size vary. Nevertheless, this adjustability is a well-supported advantage for users who want to switch between smaller and larger loads without treating a single nominal figure as a universal capacity.
The device also requires deliberate airflow adjustment. At the cap, the upper screw is loosened, the induction sleeve is rotated, and the screw is then tightened again. At the stem, the mouthpiece and Heat Shield are used to adjust or close the air inlet. This split adjustment system is likely to appeal to enthusiasts; for buyers expecting a single factory setting with no learning process, it adds extra effort.
According to the manual, the TEMPEST 2 has two click discs and a visual indicator. The click discs may activate simultaneously, especially at first, and the visual pointer continues to move as heat spreads through the cap. MAD Heaters warns never to heat the indicators directly. During reheating, the visual indicator should also not be taken as far as during the initial heating cycle.
These indicators help with operation, but they do not digitally measure the material temperature. The frequently misunderstood Wand setting is particularly important: according to the TEMPEST manual, the displayed “temperature” value on the iSpire Wand functions as a timer for the heating duration in this setup. The frequently cited 280 °C is a typical starting value for zirconia balls in the described adapter setup, not a measured herb, bowl, or aerosol temperature. The value therefore belongs in instructions for the Wand setup and should not be listed as the TEMPEST's “maximum temperature.”
For torch operation, MAD Heaters recommends a dual-flame, triple-flame, or medium-sized single-flame torch. The flame tip should remain approximately one centimeter away from the cap, and the device should be rotated slowly while heating. Regardless of burner type, an open flame and hot metal parts remain potential hazards. The cap must not be heated unattended or touched while hot, nor should it be placed on sensitive surfaces.
For induction heating, the manufacturer documents the iSpire Wand and YLL 3.0. For example, the manual specifies 80 W and approximately 35–40 seconds as a starting range for titanium caps with standard zirconia balls in the YLL setup. The more extensive table lists values ranging from just over 20 to more than 50 seconds depending on ball material, load weight, and power. Lower power extends the time, while higher power shortens it and may increase the risk of combustion if improperly adjusted. A blanket claim of “ready in 35 seconds” is therefore just as unsuitable as a fixed temperature claim.
The choice between a torch and an induction heater is therefore not simply a matter of preference. A torch requires fuel, rotation, and the safe handling of a visible flame. The Wand and YLL 3.0 require the correct adapter or depth setup, power, and time. Users who document these variables and adjust them incrementally gain more control; users expecting automatic regulation are more likely to view the learning curve as a disadvantage.
MAD Heaters lists dimensions of 122 × 18.5 mm. The published weight is 46 g with the aluminum Heat Shield and 43 g with the wooden Heat Shield. The main construction is described as Grade 5 titanium; stainless steel is used for components including the induction sleeve, indicator housing, and screens. Depending on the variant, the Heat Shield is made from anodized aluminum, wood, or titanium on correspondingly designated versions. Variant information should therefore always be stated directly alongside weight and material claims.
For water filters, the product page specifies 10-, 14-, and 18-mm WPA compatibility. This does not constitute blanket approval for every accessory from every revision. For third-party or cross-brand accessories, the exact dimensions, version, and source should be checked; components must not be forced together.
The current manual provides very specific maintenance intervals: quick cleaning is recommended after approximately 30 bowls and deep cleaning after approximately 100 bowls. Cleaning the new device before its first use is also described. Wooden components are expressly excluded from the complete IPA immersion cleaning described there. Different procedures also apply to the cap, indicators, balls, screens, O-rings, and surfaces. Users should therefore follow the current instructions in full instead of deriving a blanket “soak everything” rule from a single material reference.
Titanium, stainless steel, and replaceable components do not prove that the construction is “virtually indestructible.” Likewise, alleged microcracks after several years do not constitute reliable long-term observations without a documented unit, photos, usage history, and material analysis. The current MAD Heaters policy specifies a one-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, unless otherwise stated on the product page. Misuse, accidents, modifications, and normal wear and tear are excluded. This is not a blanket two-year warranty.
The TEMPEST 2 is a good shortlist option for technically minded users who deliberately want manual or induction heating, adjustable bowl sizes, visual and audible indicators, and extensive airflow adjustment. It is less suitable for beginners who expect a measured target temperature, automatic shutdown of the external heating process, a single foolproof heating procedure, or reliable long-term data from this article. Its value lies in its documented adjustability; the price is a setup and learning phase that should not be glossed over with invented session counts.

MAD Heaters describes it as “convection-heavy” and ball-assisted. This page therefore uses “convection-heavy” and does not turn that wording into the stronger claim of pure convection.
Yes. The current manual lists two click discs and a visual indicator. Both assist with operation, but they do not digitally measure the material temperature.
No. According to the TEMPEST manual, the Wand's temperature setting functions as a timer in this setup. 280 °C is a typical starting value for the heating duration with zirconia balls, not a measured bowl or material temperature.
The manufacturer describes torch operation and lists the iSpire Wand and YLL 3.0 as compatible induction heaters. Dual-flame, triple-flame, or medium-sized single-flame models are recommended for torch operation.
There is no universal value. Depending on the ball material, power, timer, adapter, and starting conditions, the documented setups range from just over 20 to more than 50 seconds. The specific setup must be stated.

Brief answer: Before first use, perform the deep cleaning procedure according to the manufacturer's instructions; do not immerse a wooden Heat Shield in isopropyl alcohol. Then loosely fill the bowl with ground material, keep the threads and airpath clear, and tighten the cap only gently. Heat it with either a suitable jet lighter or a compatible induction heater. The click and visual indicator are guides; the indicators themselves must never be heated directly.
| Phase | Manufacturer instructions | Important mistake to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Initial cleaning | Before first use, perform the deep cleaning procedure described in the cleaning section without immersing the wooden Heat Shield in isopropyl alcohol. | Do not begin while any cleaning-agent residue remains. |
| Loading | Unscrew the cap, fill the bowl by dipping it or using the straw method, and tamp only lightly. | Do not contaminate the threads or pack the load so tightly that it blocks airflow. |
| Closing the cap | Carefully screw the cap on until it stops. | Avoid touching steel parts with your fingers when possible; skin oils can bake onto them during heating. |
| Heating | When using a torch, rotate slowly and monitor both the click and visual indicator; when using an induction heater, begin with the appropriate manufacturer's baseline setting. | Never apply the flame directly to the indicator, and do not use settings for other ball materials without verifying them. |
| Drawing | According to the instructions, long, slow draws are most effective; the air hole can be covered during most of the draw. | When reheating, do not heat to the same mark as during the first cycle. |
| Emptying | Safely hold the hot cap with the Case, Reload magnet, or lid tool, twist it off, and remove the material. | The cap remains hot for several minutes; do not touch it or set it down without protection. |
Hold the flame tip approximately one centimeter away from the cap and rotate the device slowly so the heat is distributed. MAD Heaters recommends a dual-flame or triple-flame model or a medium-sized single flame. The click typically occurs at a lower temperature; also monitor the visual indicator. The part of the cap being heated affects the indicator's behavior and the balance between convection and conduction. When starting out, choose a reproducible position, avoid switching positions erratically, and stop approximately one mark earlier during reheating.
MAD Heaters lists the iSpire Wand and YLL 3.0 as compatible induction heaters. On the Wand, the displayed temperature functions as a time control and does not measure the actual cap temperature. For titanium caps with the stock zirconia balls, the current table lists 280 °C as the timer setting for the Wand with the V3 adapter. This is not a measured herb temperature. For the same ball and cap type, it lists, for example, 80 W for 35 to 40 seconds on the YLL 3.0; the chamber must first be adjusted with the appropriate spacer. Other ball materials require different values.
The included insert supports three bowl positions: approximately 0.1 g, 0.15 g, or 0.2 g. To set a smaller position, first push the screen downward and then move it from the neck side in a controlled manner to the intended height. Airflow can be adjusted at both the cap and the stem. Until the basic technique is reproducible, change only one variable at a time. This makes it possible to determine whether the fill level, airflow, heating position, or draw speed changed the result.
Manufacturer sources: MAD Heaters: TEMPEST 2 manual · official TEMPEST 2 product page. Settings and package details checked on September 30, 2026. The Wand values are timer settings for the specified ball and cap material, not measured material temperatures.
Check the opening of the Ispire The Wand before purchasing: MAD Heaters notes that some Ispire The Wand units are too narrow for the TEMPEST 2. The opening must measure at least 14.0 mm. If the cap fits inside the glass without any clearance, this combination should not be used because the glass may break during heating. Its general listing as a compatible heater therefore does not replace checking the specific device. Notice from the TEMPEST 2 manufacturer.

The TEMPEST 2 has its own chamber and heating head. The manufacturer's approval for the iSpire Wand and YLL 3.0 is not a blanket confirmation that arbitrary DynaVap tips or third-party accessories will fit. Before purchasing, check the opening of the Ispire The Wand: MAD Heaters notes that some Ispire The Wand devices are too narrow for the TEMPEST 2. The opening must be at least 14.0 mm wide. Depending on the screen position, approximately 0.1 g, 0.15 g, or 0.2 g. The corresponding volume levels are 0.6 / 0.9 / 1.2 cm³; the actual mass depends on the material and how the chamber is filled.
There is no universal heat-up time. For example, for titanium caps with zirconia in the YLL 3.0 starting at room temperature, the manual specifies 80 W for 35–40 s. With a warm cap, it takes 8–12 s less at the same wattage. When using a torch, the click discs and visual indicator provide guidance.
The product page states WPA compatibility with 10 mm, 14 mm, and 18 mm. Check the actual fit of the water filter and your specific version.
The main construction is made of Grade-5 titanium. The induction sleeve, indicator housing, indicators, and screens contain stainless steel. Depending on the specified model, the Heat Shield is made of aluminum, wood, or titanium; the standard balls are zirconia.
The TEMPEST 2 is documented as having three chamber positions, visual and audible indicators, and compatibility with the Wand and YLL 3.0. Compare the actual heating and accessory configurations of both devices; no measured equivalence in flavor is claimed here. For the balls, the manual describes a separate cleaning procedure after approximately 300 Bowls using a suitable torch or, alternatively, a concentrated degreasing cleaner. Do not expose glass media to extreme heat. Follow all of the manufacturer's instructions regarding materials, cooling, and reassembly.
MAD Heaters sells screens, balls, Heat Shields, and parts of the heating head separately, among other items. Availability and compatibility depend on the specific version; the individual product description is authoritative.
The current MAD Heaters policy specifies a one-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, unless otherwise stated on the product page. Misuse, accidents, modifications, and normal wear and tear are excluded.
The manual specifies suitable dried plant material. It does not state that waxes, liquids, or arbitrary concentrates are approved for use; therefore, we do not add such a suitability claim.
The manufacturer does not specify a general service life or a documented time frame for microcracks. The balls are replaceable; cleaning, mechanical stress, and the ball material affect their condition.
