Storz & Bickel Volcano Hybrid

The Volcano Hybrid is operated entirely via touch buttons on the device front. Two temperature displays show the actual temperature (orange, top) and the set temperature (white, bottom) simultaneously.

Touch buttons:

• HEAT – turn heater on/off
• AIR – turn pump on/off (for balloon filling)
• Temperature Plus/Minus – adjust set temperature in 1-degree steps
• Plus + Minus simultaneously – switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit

Factory reset:

Pressing and holding the HEAT touch button for 10 seconds resets the device to factory settings: set temperature 180 degrees Celsius, booster temperature 15 degrees above setpoint, automatic shut-off 30 minutes, LCD brightness 80 percent.

Bluetooth can be activated or deactivated by pressing Temperature Minus and AIR simultaneously for 3 seconds.

The Volcano Hybrid covers a temperature range of 40 to 230 degrees Celsius (104 to 446 degrees Fahrenheit). The heater operates at 270 watts and uses a hybrid system of convection and conduction.

Heating process:

After turning on the heater, it takes up to two minutes to reach the set temperature, depending on the setting. Typical heat-up time is around 40 seconds at standard temperatures. The pump briefly turns on to signal acoustically that the set temperature has been reached – this signal can be disabled via the app.

Temperature during vaporization:

Temperature is measured at the heat exchanger, not directly in the filling chamber. The display shows reference values for the attached filling chamber with the pump running. A temperature increase should always be a last resort, as higher temperatures can affect the taste.

Auto shut-off: Factory set to 30 minutes. Individually adjustable via the Storz & Bickel app. The display dims to 30 percent in standby mode (adjustable down to 10 percent via the app).

The Volcano Hybrid comes with three EASY VALVE Balloons with mouthpiece plus one EASY VALVE Balloon with adapter. The balloon method is the hallmark of the Volcano series.

Step by step:

1. Grind plant material using the included herb mill
2. Unscrew the filling chamber cap, fill material up to the lower edge of the hopper
3. Screw the cap back on, place the filling chamber on the hot air generator and turn clockwise until it stops
4. Turn on the heater (HEAT) and set the desired temperature
5. When actual and set temperature match: stretch the valve balloon tight, place it vertically on the filling chamber
6. Turn on the pump (AIR) – the balloon fills with vapor
7. Turn off the pump, remove the balloon with the filling chamber, set the filling chamber aside
8. Insert the mouthpiece into the valve, press lips lightly against it, and inhale slowly

Tip: Only fill the balloon with as much vapor as you intend to use within the next 10 minutes. Vapor condenses on the balloon jacket after a few hours. Do not blow into the balloon.

In addition to the valve balloon, the Volcano Hybrid includes a tube kit (1 meter tube with tube flexer and mouthpiece). This allows direct inhalation without the detour of a balloon.

Usage:

1. Turn off the pump (the tube is used without the pump)
2. Place the tube with tube flexer on the preheated, filled filling chamber
3. Inhale slowly from the tube with mouthpiece for several seconds

The tube should be replaced every two weeks for hygienic reasons. It should only be used by one person at a time. The tube flexer and mouthpiece can be cleaned together with the filling chamber parts.

Airflow: The tube allows up to 30 liters per minute of airflow – powered entirely by lung draw, without the pump. With the valve balloon, there is virtually no draw resistance since the pump actively pushes vapor into the balloon.

Breathing technique: Only inhale about half of what you could. Hold the air in the lungs for a few seconds and exhale slowly.

The filling chamber, filling chamber cap, and tube kit can be disassembled and cleaned in seconds. The screens should be cleaned with the included cleaning brush after each use.

Disassembling the filling chamber cap:

1. Pull off the cap ring
2. Push the upper screen out downwards using the cleaning brush handle
3. Push the cap cylinder out downwards

Disassembling the filling chamber:

Push the filling chamber cylinder upwards out of the filling chamber housing.

Cleaning methods:

• Soapy water: Clean screens and cap ring with warm soapy water. All other parts are dishwasher safe.
• Isopropyl alcohol: Soak all parts for a maximum of 30 minutes, then rinse for at least one minute under running water. Do not soak plastic parts longer than 30 minutes to avoid discoloration or embrittlement.

Hot air generator: Clean only with a dry or damp cloth. Never immerse in water. The air filter on the bottom should be checked for contamination every four weeks and replaced as needed.

Wear Parts & Replacement Costs

The Volcano Hybrid has three main consumable categories:

• Easy Valve Bags (set of 3, ~€20) — replace every 50 to 100 sessions. Visible discoloration or noticeable flavor loss is the cue.
• Normal screens (set of 6, ~€6) — every 3 to 6 months or when draw resistance increases.
• Tube set (~€15) — replace every two weeks or when discolored.

Seals and filling chamber parts are also sold individually. The air filter (underside) should be checked every 4 weeks and replaced as needed (2 included). Original parts are available from the Storz & Bickel shop or authorized retailers.

Wear Parts & Replacement Costs

The Volcano Hybrid requires several replacement parts over time: The EASY VALVE balloon set (3 balloons + mouthpiece) costs around €25 and should be replaced every 2 weeks with heavy use. A tube replacement set (1 m tube + mouthpiece) runs about €12, also to be swapped every 2 weeks. Normal screens (6-pack) cost about €6 and last 3–6 months. The air filter set (2 pieces) at about €5 should be checked every 4–8 weeks. The filling chamber seal ring costs about €5 and is replaced as needed. A complete Wear & Tear Set with all consumables is available for around €35. Original parts can be found at the Storz & Bickel online shop or authorized retailers.

The Volcano Hybrid is compatible with Storz & Bickel dosing capsules. These small aluminum capsules allow you to pre-fill and store portioned plant material in the capsule magazine.

Benefits of dosing capsules:

• Cleaner operation – the filling chamber stays virtually residue-free
• Pre-portioned for convenience (stored in the magazine)

Dosing capsules are filled using the included filling set with the funnel magazine lid. They are designed as single-use items and should be disposed of after use.

Using Concentrates

For waxes and oils, Storz & Bickel offers Liquid Pads (15 mm diameter). The stainless-steel mesh disc goes inside the filling chamber on top of plant material or on its own, with concentrate spread on it. This prevents anything from dripping into the hot air generator.

Recommended concentrate temperature for the Volcano Hybrid is 170–190 °C — lower than for portable devices since the desktop heater delivers more power and the vapor path is shorter. A set of 8 Liquid Pads costs around €10 and also fits inside dosing capsules together with a Concentrate Pad.

Concentrates & Drip Pads

For waxes and oils, the Volcano Hybrid uses Drip Pads (also called Liquid Pads). The pad is placed on top of the herb in the filling chamber or used on its own together with the filling chamber reducer. A set of 4 Drip Pads costs around €10. The recommended temperature for concentrates is 170–200°C – desktop devices like the Volcano work more efficiently here than portables, so lower temperatures are sufficient. The pads also fit inside dosing capsules with a Concentrate Pad. After use, clean the pad with isopropyl alcohol.

The Volcano Hybrid connects via Bluetooth to the Storz & Bickel web app on your smartphone. The app is not required for operation but offers additional settings.

App features:

Browser Compatibility

The Storz & Bickel Web App relies on the Web Bluetooth API. Chrome (desktop and Android) works most reliably. Safari and Firefox have limited or no Web Bluetooth support — connection drops are possible there.

On iOS, Safari lacks native Web Bluetooth support. The app Bluefy (available in the App Store) serves as a workaround, providing a Web Bluetooth-capable browser. If you experience connection issues, toggle Bluetooth on the Volcano off and on again (hold Temperature Minus + AIR for 3 seconds).

Browser Compatibility & Error Codes

The Storz & Bickel Web App uses the Web Bluetooth API. Chrome (desktop and Android) works most reliably. Safari and Firefox either lack Web Bluetooth support or have limited compatibility – connection drops may occur. On iOS, Safari has no native Web Bluetooth support. As a workaround, the Bluefy app (available in the App Store) provides a Web-Bluetooth-capable browser. Firmware updates can also be performed through the Web App.

The Volcano Hybrid has two error codes: ERR + r (resettable) can be resolved by holding the HEAT button for 10 seconds – this resets the device to factory settings. ERR + n (non-resettable) means the device must be sent to a Storz & Bickel Service Center. Typical causes include temperature sensor faults or electronics communication issues.

Common issues:

• No vapor: Compare set and actual temperature (at least 180 degrees Celsius). Filling chamber and balloon correctly attached? Fresh material?
• Balloon does not fill: Pump turned on? Filling chamber correctly mounted?
• Plant particles in balloon: Clean the screen in the cap or check if it is correctly seated.
• ERR display with number + r: Perform a factory reset (press HEAT for 10 seconds).
• ERR display with number + n: Irreversible error – send the device to the Service Center.

Warranty:

Two-year limited warranty from date of purchase. Register at storz-bickel.com/registration within 4 weeks of purchase for an additional year of warranty (3 years total). The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, but not accessories such as balloons, tubes, screens, or dosing capsules.

Choosing the right temperature on the Volcano Hybrid determines flavor, vapor density, and active compound profile. Lower temperatures (170–185 °C) emphasize terpenes and deliver mild, aromatic vapor. Higher temperatures (195–210 °C) produce thicker clouds and stronger effects.

• Finer grind often needs 5–10 °C lower temperature
• In cold environments, raise starting temp by 5 °C

The Volcano Hybrid battery lasts several sessions with typical use. For maximum lifespan, keep the battery between 20% and 80% and avoid deep discharge. USB-C charging with a quality power adapter speeds up charging.

Battery Tips

• Do not leave on the charger permanently — unplug after 100%
• For replaceable batteries: use original or recommended cells
• Battery performance drops in cold — let it warm up before sessions
• Pass-through charging (if supported) allows use while charging

The Classic is the proven balloon vaporizer with pure convection and simple dial control from ~249 EUR. The Hybrid adds a whip option, app control, faster heat-up (40s vs 5 min) and hybrid heating.
