What are Ball Vapes?
Ball Vapes are among the most powerful vaporisers on the market: a single draw delivers as much vapor as a complete session with a portable device. The principle behind this is called thermal mass extraction. Hundreds of heated balls made of ruby, glass or stainless steel store heat and transfer it evenly to the air flowing through.
- Ruby balls conduct heat 35 times faster than glass (40 vs. 1.1 W/m·K, material-properties.org)
- Price range: entry-level from 93 (DynaVap UniDyn), premium at over 1,000 € (FlowerPot B2)
- Almost all models require a water pipe with a 14 mm or 18 mm joint
- Heat-up time 2–4 minutes, operating temperature 260–370 °C with PID control
Unlike conduction vaporisers, where the material sits directly on a hot plate, Ball Vapes distribute the energy across hundreds of contact points at the same time. The result: extremely dense clouds and full flavour from the very first draw. How exactly does that work? The balls increase the surface area of the heating element exponentially, so the air is brought to vaporisation temperature immediately as it flows through.
Desktop or cordless: which type is right?
Most Ball Vapes are desktop devices with mains power and a PID temperature controller. A PID controller keeps the set temperature accurate to the degree, which is crucial at operating temperatures of 260–370 °C. Well-known desktop models include the QaromaShop Ceroma, Herborizer Ti and FlowerPot B2.
Since 2024, there have also been cordless alternatives. The CrossingTech WOHW uses a battery with a 16 mm induction coil, while the Vapvana All-Star Cordless uses a cordless dock system. The DynaVap UniDyn takes a different approach: it is heated like a classic DynaVap with an induction heater or lighter, but uses ruby balls in the cap. Do you really need a cable? For maximum performance, yes, but the cordless models are closing the gap quickly.
Which ball material is best: ruby, glass or ceramic?
The choice of material directly affects flavour and performance. Ruby balls (synthetic corundum) retain heat the longest, conduct it 35 times faster than glass, and are completely chemically inert. QaromaShop and CrossingTech use 3 mm rubies as standard.
| Property | Ruby | Glass (Boro) | Ceramic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thermal conductivity | 40 W/m·K | 1.1 W/m·K | ~2–5 W/m·K |
| Density | 3.98 g/cm³ | 2.23 g/cm³ | ~3.0–3.5 g/cm³ |
| Chemically inert | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Price level | High | Low | Medium |
| Best choice for | Enthusiasts | Beginners | Mid-range |
Glass balls (borosilicate) cost less and are thermally stable, but provide noticeably less heat retention per draw. Ceramic balls, as used in the Ceroma, are a good middle ground: solid heat retention with a neutral flavour. Which material suits whom? Beginners often start with glass or ceramic and upgrade to ruby later.
Who are Ball Vapes suitable for?
Ball Vapes are aimed at experienced users looking for maximum vapor density. The price range starts at 93 for the DynaVap UniDyn and goes to over 1,000 € for a complete FlowerPot B2 system. Almost all models require a water pipe as a cooling system, and heat-up time is 2–4 minutes.
For beginners, portable session vaporisers such as the Mighty+ are better suited. Ball Vapes are an upgrade for enthusiasts who already have experience with convection devices. Is the switch worth it? Anyone who wants denser clouds and more intense flavour with less material will find the best price-performance ratio in the desktop segment here.

Frequently asked questions about Ball Vapes
Do I need a bong for a Ball Vape?
Yes, almost all Ball Vapes require a water pipe with a 14 mm or 18 mm joint. The vapor reaches temperatures above 300 °C and is so dense that water filtration is necessary. Some models such as the DynaVap UniDyn also work without water, but most users prefer cooling.
How much does a good Ball Vape cost?
The price range is wide: entry-level models such as the QaromaShop Ceroma or Zaroma Lite start at 150–250 €. Premium models such as the Herborizer Ti or FlowerPot B2 cost 400–600 €, while some complete systems are over 1,000 €. Cordless models are in the 200–500 € range.
Which Ball Vape is best for beginners?
The QaromaShop Ceroma (from ~235 €) is a good entry point: proven design, large community and solid ceramic balls. The DynaVap UniDyn (from 93) is the cheapest option, but requires an external heat source such as an induction heater.
How do you clean a Ball Vape?
Soak the balls and housing in isopropanol (at least 90%), clean with a brush and allow to dry completely. Rinse glass inserts regularly with hot water. Most Ball Vapes can be fully disassembled, which makes cleaning much easier.
