Unlike many modern vaporizers, the ÄRiS deliberately does without app control and Bluetooth. Everything is handled directly on the device: you set the temperature using the buttons on the housing, while the display shows the target and current temperatures as well as the approximate battery level.

The battery is not replaceable. This is common in this device class, but it is worth considering: after several hundred charging cycles, its capacity will noticeably decline. Anyone who needs significantly more runtime or prefers a lighter housing will find the upgraded version with a larger 2,600-mAh battery in the ÄRiS Ultra. For average everyday use, however, the standard ÄRiS battery is perfectly adequate.

The most important convenience feature of the ÄRiS is ECA Easy Care Technology. This is a fully removable vapour path, including a visible glass element, which can be detached from the device in seconds. This is a weak point in many vaporizers: the vapour passes through angled, permanently installed channels that are difficult to reach and accumulate residue over time.

With the ÄRiS, you remove the path, place it in isopropyl alcohol for cleaning and then reinstall it. As part of the element is visible, you can immediately see when cleaning is required. This keeps the flavour fresh and the draw unrestricted throughout the device's service life, a genuine everyday advantage over devices with inaccessible vapour paths.

In the ÄRiS, vapour travels through a glass vapour path. Glass is flavour-neutral and does not react with the hot vapour, so it does not introduce unwanted flavours. This is a clear difference from devices that route vapour through heated plastic components.

The ÄRiS can be used with dosing capsules (Dosing Caps), which you fill in advance and insert for quick changes while out and about. Wax capsules are also available for use with concentrates. However, neither is necessarily included as standard; depending on the retailer, they are sold as accessories.

If you want to use dosing capsules from the outset, check whether they are included before purchasing or order them separately. Alternatively, simply fill the chamber directly with ground herb. This works just as well and often produces slightly more vapour because the material is closer to the airflow. If included dosing capsules are important to you, you are more likely to find them with the related FX Mini Ultra range.

At higher temperatures around 221 °C, vapour from the ÄRiS becomes noticeably warm. If you prefer cooler, gentler draws, use a water pipe adapter (WPA): it routes the vapour through a water pipe with a standard 14-mm joint, cooling and humidifying it.

Water cooling makes a clear difference to comfort, especially at the upper temperature settings, and reduces the harshness of the vapour. The adapter is available as an accessory and is not necessarily included. For anyone who mainly vapes at home and enjoys large, gentle draws, the WPA option is a worthwhile purchase.

A few simple adjustments help you get noticeably more from the ÄRiS:

• Grind: medium-fine and even. With convection, a finer grind provides more surface area and therefore denser vapour.
• Fill level: fill the chamber loosely but completely. Herb packed too tightly restricts airflow.
• Temperature ramp: start at a flavour-focused 170–180 °C, then increase in stages up to 221 °C to release the remaining active compounds.
• Drawing technique: draw slowly and steadily. A calm draw gives the hot air time to penetrate the material.

Because the ÄRiS maintains a constant temperature, it is worth vaping a chamber over two or three temperature stages instead of using everything at one setting. This extracts more aroma from the same amount of herb.

• After each session: brush out the chamber while the device is still slightly warm, as residue is easier to remove then.
• Regularly: remove the detachable vapour path and soak it in isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes, then rinse it with water and allow it to dry completely.
• Mouthpiece: remove and clean it with alcohol as well to keep the draw unrestricted.
• With dosing capsules: As the material remains inside the capsule, the chamber accumulates residue more slowly.
