Wolkenkraft Äris Ultra

The manual explicitly identifies the heating method as convection. Heated air flows through the herb chamber; the chamber wall is not specified as a separate conduction heater. At one point, the German product page uses the misleading phrase “hybrid convection technology”, while the English page and the technical specifications state convection. The unambiguous value from the manual is therefore used for the catalogue classification.

According to the manual, the 11-mm heating chamber is made of titanium. The range from 100 to 220 °C can be adjusted to the exact degree. Lower settings prioritise flavour and lighter vapour production; higher settings typically produce denser and warmer vapour. A single ideal value would not be credible because the material’s moisture content, fill quantity and draw speed affect the result.

Five clicks switch the device on. The manual states that it takes approximately 25 seconds to become ready for use and under 30 seconds in the technical specifications. The temperature and session time are set on the 0.78-inch OLED; the temperature can be changed in 1-degree increments. Vibration indicates important states.

The ÄRiS Ultra is a session device, not an on-demand vaporizer. The duration can be set between three and seven minutes; the device then switches off automatically. Short sessions reduce idle time, while longer sessions are suitable for more relaxed draws or shared use.

Convection requires airflow. Herbs should therefore be ground evenly, filled loosely and not packed firmly. Material that is too densely packed increases draw resistance and can lead to uneven extraction. The manual specifies dry herbs as the intended material; liquids must not be placed directly into the chamber.

Slow, steady draws give the hot air time to flow through the material. Very short, forceful draws can lower the temperature more significantly. Krautvergleich rates the vapour quality at 3 out of 5 points and the draw resistance as moderate. This is a published test result, not a universal promise for every fill.

Krautvergleich measured 24 seconds to 180 °C, a device weight of 133 g and 13 sessions per battery charge. The test awarded 12.5 out of 15 points, mathematically equivalent to 8.33 out of 10. The battery life cannot be transferred directly: temperature, timer, draw duration and battery condition affect every measurement.

The internal lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 2,600 mAh. WOLKENKRAFT specifies 5 V/2 A and a charging time of approximately 80 minutes. Under its test conditions, the external test reported around 40 minutes; because the charge level, power adapter and measurement method are not documented as being identical, we use the manual’s figure as the reference and mention the test figure only as a differing observation.

The manual explicitly permits use while charging. In the same section, WOLKENKRAFT advises using this function only sparingly to preserve the battery. It is therefore neither a substitute for a replaceable battery nor a reason to operate the device permanently from mains power.

At 101.25 × 52.2 × 26 mm and 133 g, the ÄRiS Ultra is compact enough for a jacket or small bag. The protruding glass mouthpiece remains the most delicate part; a protective case is recommended for transport instead of carrying it loose in a trouser pocket.

ECA refers to a removable air and heating channel. After removing the mouthpiece unit, the channel can be pushed out from below and cleaned separately. This reduces deposits in hard-to-reach places and is the clearest convenience advantage over devices with a permanently installed vapour path.

1. After the session: Empty the chamber and brush out loose particles.
2. Regularly: Remove the glass mouthpiece and screens and clean them according to the manual.
3. If draw resistance increases: Remove the ECA unit and clean the exposed air channel thoroughly.

The electronics and battery must not be immersed in liquid. All cleaned parts must be completely dry before reassembly.

Borosilicate glass is flavour-neutral and easy to clean. Krautvergleich observed that the glass becomes warm at the maximum temperature. Anyone sensitive to warm vapour can reduce the temperature or session duration and pause between draws.

The manual shows dosing capsules, a capsule container and an adapter as compatible accessories. Whether these parts are included, and how many, must be checked in the specific retailer offer; the previous blanket claim that four to six capsules were included in the standard box was unsubstantiated.

The Ultra offers 100–220 instead of 160–221 °C, 2,600 instead of 2,300 mAh and an explicitly documented titanium chamber. For the Ultra, the manual also confirms 133 g, pass-through operation and a five-year warranty. The base ÄRiS remains of interest if its current price is significantly lower and a lower limit of 160 °C is sufficient.

Both current product pages describe ECA convection. The ÄRiS Ultra covers 100–220 °C and has a 3–7-minute timer; the FENIX Pro page specifies 160–221 °C and 3–6 minutes. For the Ultra, a weight of 133 g and a five-year warranty are documented in the manual. The choice should therefore be based on minimum temperature, warranty, current availability and total price, not on the old claim of “hybrid versus convection”.
