How to Make ABV Coconut Oil
ABV coconut oil is arguably the most useful ABV product you can make — it works in sweet and savoury recipes, can be applied topically, and stores well in the fridge for months. The crockpot method is slow but extracts maximum cannabinoids.
What is ABV?
ABV stands for “Already Been Vaped” — it’s the cannabis left over after vaporizing. Because it’s already been heated, the decarboxylation process is complete and the cannabinoids are active. You can use ABV directly in recipes without any additional heating.
Ingredients
- 2 cups coconut oil
- ABV (finely ground)
- Crockpot
- Cheesecloth or fine strainer
- Glass jar for storage
Instructions
- Add 2 cups of coconut oil to the crockpot and turn to low/warm heat until the oil melts.
- Add your finely ground ABV to the melted oil and stir well.
- Cook on low or warm heat for 6 hours. Stir occasionally. Do not let the oil boil.
- Turn off the crockpot and let the mixture cool for 30 minutes.
- While still in liquid form, strain through cheesecloth into a glass jar.
- Place the jar in the refrigerator and allow to harden completely.
Tips
- Do not let the oil boil — high heat degrades cannabinoids. Keep it on the lowest setting.
- Coconut oil solidifies in the fridge. To use, scoop out the amount you need — it melts quickly at room temperature.
- Coconut oil is also the best base for ABV cannabis capsules.
