How to Decarb Weed Without a Vaporizer

Decarboxylation is the heating process that activates THC in cannabis. If you use a vaporizer, your leftover ABV is already decarbed. If you don’t own a vaporizer yet, here’s how to do it in your oven.

What is ABV?

ABV stands for “Already Been Vaped” — it’s the cannabis left over after vaporizing. Because it’s already been heated, the decarboxylation process is complete and the cannabinoids are active. You can use ABV directly in recipes without any additional heating.

Ingredients

  • Fresh cannabis flower
  • Rimmed baking sheet
  • Oven
  • Airtight container for storage

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 240°F (115°C).
  2. Break up the cannabis flowers and buds into smaller, even-sized pieces by hand. Do not grind too finely.
  3. Spread the pieces in a single even layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Make sure there are no empty gaps.
  4. Place in the oven and bake for 30–40 minutes.
  5. Stir the cannabis every 10 minutes so it toasts evenly.
  6. When the cannabis is a light to medium brown colour and has dried out, remove it from the oven.
  7. Allow to cool completely at room temperature.
  8. Store in an airtight container until ready to use.

Tips

  • Do not exceed 240°F — higher temperatures start to degrade THC into CBN, reducing the psychoactive effect.
  • The cannabis is done when it looks and smells like toasted herbs: dry, slightly crumbly, light brown.
  • Once decarbed, use the cannabis in any recipe on this site that calls for ABV — it works the same way.
