The Dr. Dabber Switch 2 is a desktop vaporizer powered by induction heating — a technology more commonly found in kitchen appliances than in vaporizers. Instead of a heating coil, an electromagnetic field generates heat directly inside the crucible. The result: 4-second heat-up, even heat distribution across the entire crucible, and no heating element that wears out over time. Both concentrates and dry herbs work with different crucibles.
Despite being a desktop unit, the Switch 2 packs a 3,000 mAh battery for cordless operation. The built-in water filtration system with a recycler mechanism cools vapor noticeably. Over 40 temperature settings via app or device button cover everything from delicate flavor vapor to maximum extraction. Available at 12 shops across Europe — check the price comparison. Induction Heating — What Is It?
Most vaporizers rely on conduction (direct contact heat) or convection (hot air). The Switch 2 uses neither. Its induction heating generates a high-frequency electromagnetic field that heats the crucible itself — without any direct contact with a heating element. The principle is identical to an induction stovetop: energy is created directly in the material, not in a coil that has to warm up first.
That explains the extremely fast 4 to 5 second heat-up. For comparison, conduction-based e-rigs need 20 to 30 seconds. Some desktop units take several minutes. With the Switch 2, by the time you set the device down, it is ready to use.
Another benefit: even heat distribution. The entire crucible gets hot at the same time instead of just the bottom. This eliminates hot spots and improves extraction, since concentrates are heated from all sides simultaneously. Less material clings to the edges and goes to waste.
Perhaps the biggest long-term advantage: since no heating element ever touches the crucible, there is no coil to burn out or replace. Coil replacement is routine maintenance on conventional e-rigs. On the Switch 2, that cost and hassle simply does not exist. Dr. Dabber is one of very few manufacturers offering induction heating for concentrates commercially. The original Switch was among the first induction e-rigs on the market.
40+ Temperature Settings & App Control
The Switch 2 covers a temperature range from 149 to 343 °C (the device itself can reach higher). On the device, 25 preset levels are accessible with a single button. The LED indicator shows the current setting via color codes. Lower thirds suit flavor-focused sessions; upper levels deliver maximum extraction from concentrates.
The Dr. Dabber app (iOS and Android, free, Bluetooth) unlocks over 40 temperature levels with degree-precise control. You can save named profiles for different concentrate types — for example a low setting around 170 °C for live rosin, a medium setting around 220 °C for wax, and a higher setting for shatter. One tap loads the profile you want.
A practical bonus: firmware updates arrive through the app. After the original Switch launched, Dr. Dabber pushed several updates adding temperature levels and improving heat behavior. Without the app, the Switch 2 works fully via the 25 device presets — the app is an enhancement, not a requirement.
For newcomers: levels 8 through 12 (roughly 185–210 °C) work well for concentrates like live resin and budder. Harder extracts such as wax and shatter flow better on levels 14 through 18. Dry herbs perform best on the lower levels 5 through 9, where the vapor stays smooth.
3,000 mAh Battery & Cordless Use
Unusual for a desktop device: the Switch 2 has a built-in 3,000 mAh battery. You can use it without a power cable — on the balcony, in the garden, at a campsite, or anywhere else you would not normally take a desktop rig. This separates it from traditional desktop e-rigs that are dead without a wall socket.
Battery life depends heavily on temperature. At lower settings (up to around 185 °C), expect roughly 100 to 150 individual hits, which comfortably covers a typical evening session. At high temperatures (level 20 and above), the induction field draws significantly more power, cutting that down to 40 to 60 hits in practice. For multi-person sessions or extended high-temperature use, staying plugged in is more reliable.
Charging is via USB-C. The device supports passthrough — use it while it charges. If you mostly use the Switch 2 on a desk or coffee table, just keep it plugged in and let the battery handle the occasional move to another room.
At 726 grams, the Switch 2 is not built for pockets or backpacks. The hybrid desktop-plus-battery concept makes it ideal for moving between spots at home or taking to a patio. It is not designed to travel in a bag.
Built-In Water Filtration with Recycler
The base of the Switch 2 contains a built-in water chamber with a recycler mechanism. After leaving the crucible, vapor passes through water before reaching your mouth. The water cools the vapor noticeably and filters out particles. At high temperature settings, where unfiltered vapor can feel harsh, this makes a meaningful difference in comfort from the very first hit.
The recycler design routes vapor through the water in a loop, increasing filtration efficiency compared to a basic bubbler. The glass attachment sits on top of the base and detaches without tools for filling and cleaning. The water level is visible through the clear glass at all times.
The best fill level sits just above the percolation holes. Too much water causes splash-back when you draw; too little barely filters. A few sessions are enough to dial in the right amount. Changing the water before each session is not mandatory but noticeably improves flavor — standing water picks up concentrate aromas within a day or two and muddies the taste.
Water filtration makes the biggest difference with concentrates at high temperatures. For dry herbs at low settings the vapor is already mild, so the filtration impact is less dramatic. If you prefer unfiltered, direct vapor for any reason, the chamber can simply be left empty.
Crucibles, Inserts & Build Quality
The Switch 2 consists of a cylindrical metal base housing the electronics, the induction module, and the battery. The glass attachment with water filtration and mouthpiece sits on top. The crucible drops into the opening of the induction module and swaps out without tools — pull it out, drop the new one in.
Dr. Dabber ships multiple crucible types:
- SiC crucible (silicon carbide) — the default choice for concentrates. Fast, even heating, resistant to heavy use. Most users reach for this one daily.
- Crystal insert — for maximum flavor. The material imparts less of its own taste than SiC. Slightly slower heat absorption, so it works best at low to mid temperatures when flavor purity is the goal.
- Induction cup for dry herbs — turns the Switch 2 into an herb vaporizer. Delivers decent vapor, though it does not match a dedicated herb device.
At 726 grams, the Switch 2 is not a lightweight — but the weight works in its favor: it stays firmly on the table even when you pull on the glass attachment. Tipping during normal use is nearly impossible. Warranty covers 2 years from purchase date, and since there is no coil to degrade, the heating system itself is extremely durable.
Cleaning, Self-Clean Mode & Maintenance
Concentrates leave residue in the crucible. Regular cleaning keeps the flavor clean and extends the life of your inserts. The Switch 2 includes a self-cleaning mode: a short high-temperature cycle with no material loaded burns off concentrate residue inside the crucible. Run it on the highest level for about 20 to 30 seconds, then wipe the crucible while still warm with a cotton swab.
After every session:
- Swab the still-warm crucible with a cotton swab — residual heat dissolves concentrate residue and the swab picks it up cleanly
- Works identically for both SiC and crystal inserts
Weekly or when visibly dirty:
- Soak crucible in isopropyl alcohol (90%+) for 10 to 20 minutes
- Soak glass attachment and mouthpiece in ISO as well
- Rinse with warm water and let dry thoroughly before use
Water change: Fresh water before every session gives the best flavor. Standing water develops a film and picks up concentrate aromas after a couple of days, which affects the taste.
The crucible is a wear part but lasts many months with proper care. Because no heating element contacts the crucible, there is no coil degradation — the largest recurring cost of conventional e-rigs is eliminated entirely. Replacement inserts are available from Dr. Dabber and most European shops that carry the brand.
