About this vaporizer
Dr. Dabber Switch is a desktop vaporizer with induction heating for concentrates and herb. According to the manufacturer, it is ready with most profiles after around 5 seconds. A toggle switch selects between Oil mode for concentrates and Leaf mode for herb, with a ceramic cup for each. The vapor passes through a glass percolator.
In normal operation, five levels per mode are available; in Advanced Mode, 25. A self-cleaning cycle burns residue out of the cup. It is powered by a swappable battery pack that can also be used while charging. This first generation has no app.

The Switch is powered by a swappable battery pack that can also be used whilst charging. This first generation has no app or Bluetooth; it is operated via three buttons on the device. Induction: How the Switch Heats
The Switch generates a high-frequency magnetic field that is absorbed by the induction cups. The heat is produced within the cup itself. According to the manual, the device regulates power to 1% accuracy and maintains the cup temperature throughout the entire heating cycle.
Dr. Dabber cites several advantages: the cups heat very quickly and evenly, there are no coils to replace and no electrical contacts on the heating element that wear out. The electronics are shielded from the vapor chamber. The design is also said to reduce the oxygen in the vapor space so the material does not combust.
Important for everyday use: no metal must be placed in the glass attachment, because the magnetic field heats any conductive material. Glass or ceramic tools are therefore used for loading. Without a cup inserted, the Switch will not start a heating cycle.
Oil and Leaf Mode with Two Ceramic Cups
The name comes from the toggle switch on the side: one position is OIL for concentrates, the other LEAF for herb, and in the middle the device is off. To change mode, set the switch to off first.
- Oil: white ceramic cup. You can load it beforehand or add the concentrate with the glass tool into the hot cup and then place the carb cap on top.
- Leaf: black ceramic cup, which according to the manual holds approximately 0.35 g. The herb is packed in firmly, and the ceramic filter cap is placed on top with the prongs facing upward. The cap can slightly reduce vapor density.
The cups are interchangeable, but each is intended for its respective mode. After heating they become very hot. Remove them only after cooling and only with the tweezers.
Power Levels, Hold Time, and Advanced Mode
In normal operation, each mode has five power levels, selected with the Plus and Minus buttons. One LED represents the fullest flavor, five LEDs the densest vapor. After pressing the Go button, the LEDs light up red, and when green the Switch is ready.
The device holds the temperature for 20 seconds in Oil mode and 15 seconds in Leaf mode. An automatic cooling cycle with blue running LEDs follows. Depending on the device temperature it lasts between 5 seconds and 4 minutes and protects the electronics. The manual explicitly warns against bypassing it.
Those who want finer control can start Advanced Mode by holding the Go button while switching on. This offers 25 power levels. According to the manual, the lowest corresponds to a profile of around 300 °F (approximately 150 °C) and the highest to around 800 °F (approximately 425 °C). In Advanced Mode the hold time can also be "trained": hold the Go button during use, with 5 to 30 seconds saved.
The separately available quartz cup has its own Crystal Mode. The standard ceramic cups are not suitable for this.
Battery Pack and Charging
Contrary to what is often stated, the Switch does not run from a mains cable but from a removable battery pack beneath the magnetic base plate. According to the manual, a single charge provides up to 100 draws in Oil or Leaf mode. Higher levels reduce the runtime.
The device may be kept on the charger at any time and can continue to be used whilst charging (pass-through charging). Without the battery inserted it will not function, however. From 10% to full, charging takes 60 to 90 minutes according to the manufacturer. After each level selection the LEDs display the battery level in pink, with each LED representing 20%. If they flash pink, the battery is below 10% and must be charged before the next use.
To replace the battery, unscrew the base plate, slide the retaining clips to the side, and pull out the battery. Dr. Dabber permits only its own charging cables, power adaptors, and batteries.
Glass Percolator and Water
The glass percolator attachment sits on top of the glass body. According to the manual, the Switch may only be used with the attachment in place. Fill it with a little water whilst removed and take a test draw before attaching it to ensure no water splashes into the mouthpiece.
The manual makes no mention of a recycler, as some descriptions claim. It refers only to a percolator.
Self-Cleaning and Maintenance
The Switch has a self-cleaning cycle for the ceramic cups. A high-energy heating run burns residue out of the cup. It is started by holding the Plus button to the highest level and then continuing to hold it for a further 5 seconds. The device must not be used during the cycle. It does not work in Crystal Mode or with the quartz cup.
For thorough cleaning, the manual recommends isopropyl alcohol of 90% or above with cotton swabs or cloths. The device, cups, filter cap, glass body, and percolator can all be cleaned. Switch off and allow everything to cool beforehand, then allow it to dry completely.
Lighting, Stealth Mode, and Operation
The glass body glows on standby. There are 25 lighting options to choose from. Hold the Minus button and cycle through them with Go or Plus. The setting is saved.
In Stealth Mode the glass body remains dark and only the front LEDs show the status. After switching off, the Switch remembers the last selected level for each mode.

The Switch 2 is the successor model. The Dr. Dabber app is available for it, but not for the first generation. Anyone who values app control should therefore look at the Switch 2.
The original Switch can already handle both concentrates and herb with its two cups. Whether the premium for the successor is worth it is shown by the price comparison of both devices.
