Getting Started & Instructions
The XMAX V3 Pro is ready to use in three steps: charge, fill, vape. Here is how it works straight out of the box.
1. First charge
Connect the included USB-C cable to a 5V charger. The 2600 mAh battery takes about 2.5 hours to go from empty to full. The LED stops flashing when it is fully charged. Pass-through charging is possible, but a full first charge is recommended.
2. Fill the chamber
Pull the glass mouthpiece straight upwards. Grind the herbs to a medium-fine consistency and fill the ceramic chamber loosely — do not pack it tightly. About 0,1 g is ideal. Carefully reinsert the mouthpiece.
3. Switch on and choose temperature
Press the power button 5 times quickly to switch it on. The V3 Pro heats up in about 15 seconds (LED flashes while heating up). Use the side button to choose the temperature level:
- 180°C — best flavour, light vapour
- 190°C — balanced flavour and vapour (recommended starting point)
- 200°C — denser clouds, stronger effect
- 210–220°C — maximum extraction, less flavour
4. Draw technique
Take slow, steady draws of 8–12 seconds. The hybrid heating system works best with gentle inhalation — no hard pulling needed. A session lasts about 5 minutes until auto shut-off.
5. After the session
Click 5 times to switch it off. Let it cool for 30 seconds, then remove the mouthpiece and tap out the spent herbs. Clean the chamber with the included brush. Clean the glass stem once a week with isopropyl alcohol for the best flavour.
Typical beginner mistakes
- Packed too tightly — restricts airflow and reduces vapour quality
- Started too hot — begin at 190°C and work your way up
- Drew too quickly — slow, steady draws extract more flavour
- Forgot cleaning — residue builds up quickly in the glass stem
- Not ground — whole herbs barely vaporise in a conduction chamber
Research context: A study in the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Hazekamp et al., 2006) showed that vaporisation at controlled temperatures releases over 95 % of the desired active compounds while largely avoiding combustion by-products. Source: PubMed 16637053
How Does the Heating and Temperature Control Work?
The V3 Pro uses hybrid heating: conduction warms the material through contact with the ceramic chamber, while convection passes hot air through it. This combination provides fast heat-up and even extraction throughout the entire session.
The temperature range goes up to 220°C and can be adjusted in several levels using the side button. LED indicators on the device show the selected level. The heat-up time is around 15 seconds – fast enough for spontaneous use.
Recommended temperature ranges:
| Zone | Range | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Flavour | 170–185°C | Mild, aromatic, little visible vapour |
| Balance | 185–200°C | Good flavour with visible vapour |
| Dense clouds | 200–220°C | Powerful vapour, complete extraction |
Tip: Start at 180°C and increase in 5-degree steps. More finely ground material often needs 5–10°C less.
How Do I Charge the Battery Properly?
The V3 Pro uses a replaceable 18650 battery with 2.600 mAh. The battery can be removed in seconds and swapped for a fresh one – a decisive advantage over devices with a built-in battery.
Charging is done via USB-C. Pass-through charging is possible: the device can continue to be used while charging. A full charge is enough for around 5–7 sessions at a medium temperature.
For optimal performance, quality 18650 cells are recommended (e.g. Samsung 25R or Sony VTC5). Cheap no-name batteries often offer less capacity and can affect heating performance. The V3 Pro can also be conveniently recharged on the go from a power bank.
Dosing Capsules & Chamber
The V3 Pro is compatible with dosing capsules. The small stainless steel capsules are filled in advance and can be swapped in seconds while out and about. The ceramic chamber stays almost clean – less cleaning effort and consistent dosing in every session.
Without capsules, the chamber holds around 0,3 g. For the best hybrid extraction, the material should be ground medium-fine and filled loosely. Packing too tightly restricts the convection element.
Advantages of dosing capsules:
- Hygiene: Chamber stays clean
- Dosing: Consistent fill amount per capsule
- Speed: Capsule change in under 10 seconds
- Out and about: Take several prepared capsules with you
How Portable and Ergonomic Is the Design?
At 107 g, the V3 Pro is one of the lighter devices in its class. The compact housing made of matt plastic feels good in the hand and fits easily into a jacket pocket or backpack.
It is operated via a side button for temperature and a separate power button. LED indicators show the selected temperature level and battery status. Compared to the successor V4 Pro, there is no OLED display – but the LED control is perfectly adequate for everyday use.
The modular design makes cleaning easier: the mouthpiece and ceramic chamber can be removed separately. A cotton bud soaked in isopropyl alcohol is enough for the chamber; the mouthpiece can be soaked completely. When using dosing capsules, a basic weekly clean is often enough.
What Accessories Are Compatible?
The V3 Pro is WPA compatible (Water Pipe Adapter). With a 14-mm adapter, it can be connected to water pipes and bongs. The vapour is cooled and smoothed by the water – particularly pleasant at higher temperatures.
Original accessories include replacement screens, dosing capsules, cleaning brushes and replacement mouthpieces. The dosing capsules are compatible with other XMAX models that use the same system.
You can find more XMAX models on the XMAX brand page. The more compact V3 Nano is suitable for use on the go, while the V4 Pro offers pure convection and an OLED display.
Conclusion
The XMAX V3 Pro is a reliable budget vaporizer with a well-balanced feature set. Hybrid heating, replaceable battery, dosing capsules and WPA compatibility – this combination is rare for under 50 €. It is particularly suitable for beginners and anyone looking for a straightforward device without too many bells and whistles.
Compared with the successor V4 Pro, the V3 Pro lacks pure convection, on-demand mode, an OLED display and 3-level airflow. In return, the V3 Pro scores with dosing capsule compatibility (V4 Pro: no) and an even lower price. If you want convection and more control, go for the V4 Pro; if you want a solid device at a low price, the V3 Pro is a good choice.
