About this vaporizer
The Vestratto Tornado is a Canadian butane convection vaporizer built specifically for use with a glass rig. That's not a minor detail — it shapes every aspect of the device. The Tornado is engineered to direct hot convection air through the herb and into a water pipe, combining the flavor benefits of convection heating with the cooling and filtration that water provides. The result is a genuinely premium experience.
Materials throughout are high grade. With no electronics to speak of, the quality of a butane vaporizer lives entirely in its materials and construction, and Vestratto has been deliberate about both. Maximum temperature reaches 260°C, and heat-up takes just 15 seconds — impressively quick for convection. Because the heat source is external and you control it, you also have intuitive temperature control through flame duration and intensity.
Dosing capsules are compatible, which is especially appreciated when using the device with a rig. Loading and swapping capsules is cleaner and faster than loose-packing, and it keeps the device itself in better condition over time.
The lifetime warranty is remarkable. It's a clear signal from Vestratto about what they think of their product's longevity. The Tornado is for experienced users who know what they want: a dedicated glass-rig butane convection experience with no compromises on materials or build quality. It's not for everyone, but for the users it's designed for, it's hard to beat.

The Vestratto Tornado is a battery-free vaporizer from Canada, powered either by a butane flame or the FORGE induction heater. Its patented CopperCore heating system layers copper between two sheets of medical-grade stainless steel and distributes heat evenly across the entire chamber. A secondary atomizer breaks the vapour particles into a finer mist, significantly increasing vapour density.
The XXL Herb Chamber holds around 0,3 g, making it 55 per cent larger than Vestratto’s ThermoCore XL. A 14mm-WPA is included, allowing the Tornado to be connected directly to a water pipe. Weighing 41,4 g, with a fully dismantlable design and purely mechanical operation, the device does away with electronics, batteries and wear parts. In Europe, prices start from 254,90 EUR.

CopperCore Heating & Dual Atomizer
The heart of the Tornado is the CopperCore heating system. A copper layer is embedded between two walls of medical-grade stainless steel. Copper conducts heat around 15 times faster than steel, so the heat from the flame or induction heater is spread evenly across the entire chamber wall instead of creating a hotspot in one place.
Vestratto states the Tornado’s thermal mass at full saturation is 3.250 Joule — around 20 per cent more than the Anvil. In practice, that means more stored energy per heat-up, longer draws and denser vapour.
Dual atomizer principle
The Tornado works with two atomizers arranged in sequence. The first atomizer produces vapour when the hot air comes into contact with the plant material. The second atomizer sits behind it and breaks the vapour particles into a finer mist. According to Vestratto, this increases bioavailability and creates the characteristically dense clouds the Tornado is known for.
Heat source: Torch vs. FORGE
- Butane flame: Heats up in 10–20 seconds. Affordable and available everywhere. Requires a bit of practice to position the flame correctly.
- FORGE induction heater: Heats up in 20–30 seconds. More even heating, no open flame, and more repeatable results. Sold separately.
Research context: A study in the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Hazekamp et al., 2006) showed that vaporisation at controlled temperatures releases over 95 % of the desired active compounds while largely avoiding combustion by-products. Source: PubMed 16637053
Materials & Build Quality
The Tornado is made from a small number of high-quality materials. All parts that come into contact with the airpath are made from medical-grade stainless steel or titanium. There is no plastic or rubber in the vapour path.
Construction in detail
- CopperCore chamber: Stainless steel on the outside, copper in the middle, stainless steel on the inside. The outer shell is magnetic so the FORGE induction heater can hold the device.
- Titanium airpath: A spiral titanium element cools the vapour on its way to the mouthpiece and also collects reclaim residue that can later be harvested.
- Viton seals: Used exclusively at the 14mm-WPA connection — not in the vapour path.
- Hexagonal grip: The XXL chamber has a hexagonal cross-section for a secure grip and easy removal.
Vestratto manufactures the Tornado in small batches in Canada. Each device is individually inspected before leaving the factory. Total weight is 41,4 g, with dimensions of around 7,7 x 3,1 cm. A direct competitor is the MAD Heaters TEMPEST 2, which also uses zirconium oxide balls, but additionally offers an adjustable chamber and a built-in Induction Sleeve for IH compatibility.
Use & Technology
Filling the chamber
The XXL Herb Chamber holds around 0,3 g of plant material. Vestratto recommends a medium grind and a loose pack — do not tamp it down too firmly so air can flow through the material. The chamber is removable and can be filled and cleaned separately.
Heating up
When heating with a torch, the flame is directed at the underside of the CopperCore chamber. With the FORGE induction heater, the Tornado sits in a holder and is heated automatically. A click mechanism indicates when operating temperature has been reached.
No cold start: Vestratto recommends not using the Tornado from a cold state, as thermal sticking can occur. Heat it first until the click is heard, then inhale.
Inhalation
The airflow is primarily convection-based — air enters the chamber from the side. You can expect 1 to 3 powerful draws per load. The Tornado is not a session vaporizer: it delivers few but extremely dense hits. After that, the material is largely extracted.
Water pipe recommended
Because of the high vapour density, the throat hit can be intense without a water pipe. Vestratto therefore includes a 14mm-Male-Seal WPA in the box. A water pipe softens the hit and makes the vapour more comfortable.
How Do I Clean and Maintain My Vaporizer?
The Tornado can be dismantled completely. All metal parts can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol.
Dismantling
The XXL chamber is removed and cleaned separately. Over time, the titanium spiral element in the airpath collects reclaim residue. This can be harvested or dissolved out with isopropanol.
Cleaning steps
- Remove the chamber and allow it to cool
- Brush out any remaining material
- Soak all metal parts in isopropyl alcohol (10–15 minutes is enough)
- Rinse under running water and leave to dry
O-rings
The Viton O-rings are used exclusively at the WPA connection. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Under normal use, they last for many months.
Wear parts
The Tornado has no electronic wear parts. There is no battery to age, no heating coil to burn out, and no display that can break. With normal care, the device should last virtually indefinitely.

Tornado vs. Anvil vs. Tempest 2
Vestratto makes three vaporizers that differ in power, flavour and chamber size. Here is a direct comparison.
| Property | Tornado | Anvil | Tempest 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hit strength | Extreme | Strong | Medium-strong |
| Flavour | Good | Very good | Best |
| Draws per load | 1–2 | 2–4 | 3–5 |
| Chamber size | ~0,3 g (XXL) | ~0,1 g | ~0,15 g |
| Heating principle | Hybrid + Dual Atomizer | Hybrid | Convection |
| WPA | 14mm (included) | 10mm | 10mm |
| Water pipe needed? | Recommended | Optional | Optional |
| Weight | 41,4 g | ~30 g | ~25 g |
| RRP (USD) | 289 USD | 239 USD | 225 USD |
In short: The Tornado is Vestratto’s hardest hitter — built for maximum vapour density with a water pipe. The Anvil is more versatile and also works well without a water pipe. The Tempest 2 delivers the best flavour and is better suited to longer sessions with multiple draws.
