The Poby Model L uses an induction field to heat the metal cap of a DynaVap vaporizer. The principle is familiar from induction hobs: an alternating current generates a magnetic field that creates eddy currents in the cap and therefore heat. Heat-up time is around 8 to 12 seconds, depending on the cap and the desired temperature. Compared with a classic jet flame, the heat distribution is more even, resulting in a more consistent vapor experience. As usual, a click mechanism on the DynaVap signals when the right temperature has been reached. The induction coil inside is matched to the size of common DynaVap caps, so energy transfer is efficient and hardly any heat is lost.
The device has a cylindrical shape and sits comfortably in the hand. At the top there is an opening into which the DynaVap is inserted. A single button starts the heating process, while LED indicators provide information about battery level and operating status. The housing design is kept simple and fits into a jacket pocket. Compared with larger induction heaters such as the Ispire Wand or the Koil Bro, the Poby Model L is significantly more compact, which makes it appealing for mobile use. It weighs under 200 grams, so the heater is hardly noticeable when carried. Build quality is decent for this price range - no sharp edges, no loose parts.
The integrated lithium-ion battery offers enough capacity for around 20 to 30 heating cycles per charge. Charging is via USB-C, and charging time is about one and a half hours. The LED indicator changes color as soon as the battery is full. For a day trip, the capacity is generally more than sufficient. Anyone using the Poby Model L as their primary heater will need to charge it every one to two days - depending on intensity of use. One practical detail: the device switches itself off automatically if it is not used for a while, so the battery is not put under unnecessary strain.
Compared with a classic jet flame, the Poby Model L offers the advantage of being unaffected by wind. Outdoors in blustery weather, it works reliably, whereas a lighter can fail. Compared with stationary induction heaters such as the Ispire Wand, it lacks the option to adjust heating power precisely. In return, it is much more portable. For DynaVap users who want to leave their flame at home, the Poby Model L is a sensible accessory. However, anyone looking for full temperature control is better off with a larger desktop IH with adjustable power. Another advantage over a flame: there is no butane consumption, and there is no need to refill gas - only to charge the battery.
