Beyond DynaVap and Sticky Brick
Everyone knows DynaVap by now. Sticky Brick has established itself as an insider tip that is no longer much of a secret. But anyone who delves deeper into the world of flame-heated vaporizers will encounter brands that rarely appear even in specialist forums. Small manufacturers, one-person operations, hobbyists with workshops in their basements — they all build devices that receive hardly any commercial promotion yet have loyal followings.
This article presents six such niche manufacturers. Not all of them are easy to obtain. Some have waiting lists, while others only deliver to certain countries. But they all offer something the big brands cannot: individuality, craftsmanship and often surprisingly good vapor.
Camouflet Convector

Origin: Canada Heating method: Pure convection Price range: 200-350 EUR (depending on the edition)
Camouflet is a small Canadian brand that offers exactly one product with the Convector — and it is decidedly uncompromising. The Convector is a pure convection vaporizer. The air is heated by a flame, then flows through a glass vapor path and only afterwards over the herbal material. The herb therefore never comes into direct contact with heat.
The result: exceptionally clean flavour. Users describe the vapor as cooler and more aromatic than that of comparable butane devices. The glass path can be cleaned or replaced separately, simplifying maintenance.
The build quality is excellent. Stainless steel, glass, precise fits. Nothing wobbles or rattles. The various editions — from the standard model to the Limited Run with wooden accents — differ mainly in appearance, not function.
The catch: availability. Camouflet produces in small batches. Anyone who wants a Convector must either order at the right time or turn to the second-hand market. New drops are announced via Instagram and the company’s own website. It helps to be quick.
Another advantage: the Convector also works with water-pipe adapters. When used through a bong or bubbler, pure convection reaches its full potential — large, cool clouds with maximum flavour.
Who is it for? Flavour purists willing to pay a premium for pure convection. Anyone accustomed to DynaVap-like devices (conduction/hybrid) will be surprised by how different pure convection vapor tastes.
Vaphit QOQ

Origin: China Heating method: Conduction (butane) Price range: 25-45 EUR
At the other end of the price spectrum is Vaphit. With the QOQ, the Chinese brand makes a butane vaporizer in a completely different price bracket. Less than 50 euros for a functioning device — that is virtually unheard of elsewhere.
The QOQ operates according to the same basic principle as a DynaVap: fit the metal cap, heat it with a lighter, wait for the click and draw. The tips are even compatible with DynaVap, meaning that you can continue using your existing DynaVap accessories. Stems, adapters, induction heaters — everything fits.
The material quality is surprisingly decent for the price. Stainless steel, cleanly finished, no sharp edges. Of course, the feel is not on the same level as an 80-euro DynaVap. But nobody expects that at this price.
Where the QOQ falls short is vapor production. The herb chamber is slightly smaller and the airflow more restrictive. Experienced users describe the vapor as thinner compared with the DynaVap M7. For occasional users or as a secondary device for use on the go, however, it is perfectly adequate.
The QOQ is available from various online shops, including in Europe. Delivery sometimes takes a little longer when ordered directly from China — European retailers are faster, but charge a few euros more.
Who is it for? Beginners who want to try butane vaporizers without immediately spending 80+ euros. Or DynaVap owners looking for an inexpensive backup.
Vaphit HX
Origin: China Heating method: Induction (no lighter required) Price range: 80-120 EUR
With the HX, Vaphit takes an interesting step further. Instead of a flame, it uses induction heating. You insert a DynaVap-compatible tip into the HX, press a button and an electromagnetic field heats the cap. No gas, no lighter, no soot.
Technically speaking, the HX is no longer a butane vaporizer. But it belongs on this list because it serves the same ecosystem: DynaVap-compatible tips and caps. Anyone who already owns a QOQ or DynaVap can simply insert their tips into the HX and effectively have an electronic device.
The heat-up time is around 8-10 seconds. The battery lasts for approximately 30-40 cycles before it needs to be plugged in. Vapor quality depends heavily on the tip used — an original DynaVap tip produces better results than one made by Vaphit.
The HX bridges the gap between the analogue butane world and electronic vaporizers. There is no learning curve for heating and no risk of combustion due to incorrect timing. At the same time, the modular tip system is retained.
Important to know: the HX is not a replacement for a fully fledged electronic vaporizer such as the Mighty or Crafty. The herb chamber remains typically small for a DynaVap (approx. 0.1 g), and vapor production still depends on the tip design. The HX changes only the heating method, not the basic concept.
Who is it for? DynaVap users who no longer want to use a lighter at home. Or people who like the click system but prefer a more reliable heating method.
Lotus Vaporizer

Origin: USA Heating method: Pure convection Price range: 100-150 EUR (used, discontinued)
The Lotus is a classic that is no longer manufactured. Nevertheless, it deserves a place on this list because it is actively traded on the second-hand market and demonstrates a completely distinctive approach to butane vaporizers.
The concept: a perforated metal plate is held over a flame. The hot air flows down through the holes into the herbal material. Pure convection, with no hot surface touching the herb. The Lotus is typically placed on a water-pipe mouthpiece or a special wooden body.
The technique takes practice. You must hold the flame at the correct distance and angle while inhaling at the same time. Too close: combustion. Too far away: no vapor. It takes a few sessions to develop a feel for it. Once mastered, however, the Lotus delivers remarkably good flavour.
Its cult appeal is considerable. Lotus owners talk about their devices the way guitarists talk about vintage amplifiers. The combination of simple design, pure convection and craftsmanship has created a loyal community.
The only realistic way to obtain one is through the second-hand market. Reddit, specialist forums, sometimes eBay. Prices vary considerably depending on condition and accessories.
Anyone who finds a Lotus and embraces the learning curve gets a vaporizer unlike anything else on the market. No click, no timer, no feedback other than your own intuition. Some find that frustrating — for others, that is precisely the appeal.
Who is it for? Collectors and technology enthusiasts seeking a unique vaping experience who do not mind buying used.
Dreamwood Vaporizer
Origin: Germany Heating method: Conduction (DynaVap-compatible) Price range: 40-90 EUR
Dreamwood comes from Germany and makes handcrafted wooden stems for DynaVap tips. It has no heating system of its own, but instead offers artfully turned bodies made from fine and tropical woods into which standard DynaVap tips are inserted.
Sounds simple? It is. But the difference when vaping is noticeable. A longer wooden body cools the vapor better than a short stainless-steel stem. The wood feels more pleasant in the hand. And visually, every piece is unique — the grain, colour and shape vary from one device to another.
Dreamwood offers various models: short stems for use on the go, long stems for home use, models with and without cooling fins, and adapters for water pipes. Some editions have glass inserts in the vapor path. The selection of woods ranges from native oak to exotic cocobolo.
The workmanship is consistently good. Clean fits, no gaps between wood and metal, smooth surfaces. For the price — often less than a DynaVap original — you get a handcrafted product from a German workshop.
Orders are placed through the company’s own online shop. Delivery times are short, and shipping within Europe is straightforward. It is considerably more accessible than many other niche brands.
A tip: Dreamwood regularly offers clearance items and factory seconds. These have minimal cosmetic flaws — a small scratch or a slight irregularity in the grain — but work perfectly. Anyone looking to save money should check there first.
Who is it for? DynaVap owners who want to give their device better cooling, a more pleasant feel and a personal touch. It also makes an excellent gift.
MAD Heaters Tempest 2

Origin: Australia Heating method: Conduction (DynaVap-compatible) Price range: 50-80 EUR
MAD Heaters from Australia specialises in aftermarket stems for DynaVap. The Tempest 2 is its best-known product: a stainless-steel stem with an integrated cooling system that directs the vapor through several chambers before it reaches the mouthpiece.
The result is noticeably cooler vapor than with a standard DynaVap stem. Anyone who has ever taken an overly hot draw from an M-Series knows why that matters. The Tempest 2 makes the DynaVap system considerably more comfortable for longer sessions.
The construction is industrially precise — CNC-milled stainless steel, cleanly deburred, with O-ring seals at the joints. It feels more premium than the standard DynaVap stem and is also considerably heavier.
The disadvantage: size. The Tempest 2 is longer and heavier than a normal DynaVap. It is not designed for a trouser pocket. Cleaning also takes longer because the vapor flows through more chambers, allowing more residue to accumulate.
MAD Heaters ships worldwide, although shipping costs from Australia to Europe can be steep. Some European shops already stock the products — it is worth comparing prices.
Who is it for? DynaVap users seeking better cooling and a more premium mouthfeel. Particularly interesting for people who prefer high temperatures.

Why niche vaporizers?
The obvious question: why not simply buy a DynaVap and leave it at that? The device works, the community is huge and spare parts are available everywhere. Why take the detour through small manufacturers?
Craftsmanship instead of mass production. A Dreamwood stem is one of a kind. A Camouflet Convector is assembled in a small workshop, not on an assembly line. You can tell — from the precision of the fit, the materials and the attention to detail that is lost in large-scale production.
Different vaping experiences. Pure convection (Camouflet, Lotus) tastes fundamentally different from conduction (DynaVap). Longer stems (Dreamwood, MAD Heaters) cool the vapor noticeably. Induction heating (Vaphit HX) eliminates the learning curve involved in heating. Each of these manufacturers solves a specific problem or offers an experience that standard devices do not provide.
Supporting small manufacturers. In an industry increasingly dominated by a handful of large brands, niche manufacturers keep innovation moving forward. Many ideas that now appear in products from DynaVap or Sticky Brick were first tested by very small manufacturers.
Collector’s value. Limited editions from Camouflet or rare wood varieties from Dreamwood increase in value. The Lotus is a prime example: since production was discontinued, prices on the second-hand market have risen. Those who buy early will later have either a great device or a worthwhile investment.

Conclusion
Butane vaporizers are more than DynaVap and Sticky Brick. Behind the big names lies an ecosystem of small manufacturers, some of which make better devices — at least for certain use cases.
The Camouflet Convector delivers the purest convection vapor in this segment. The Vaphit QOQ makes butane vaping accessible for under 50 EUR. Dreamwood demonstrates that German craftsmanship and DynaVap compatibility are not mutually exclusive. And MAD Heaters solves the biggest problem with the DynaVap system: vapor that is too hot.
Not every one of these devices is suitable for everyone. Some require patience to obtain, while others have a steep learning curve. Anyone who simply wants to vape without having to think about it is better served by a DynaVap M7 or Sticky Brick Junior. But those willing to look beyond the obvious will find devices with genuine character in this niche — and sometimes even better vapor than that of the market leader.
