Fenix Mini+

The Fenix Mini+ uses hybrid heating. This means that the herb is vaporised partly by hot air (convection) and partly by direct contact heat from the chamber wall (conduction). Convection predominates in this design, producing a clean flavour – while conduction provides the necessary power to ensure that even this small device produces dense vapour.

The practical advantage: hybrid devices heat up more quickly than pure convection models and are less sensitive to draw speed. This is a sensible choice for a pocket-sized device – you get reliable vapour even with quick draws, without having to wait for a pure hot-air heating system.

At around 136 grams, the Mini+ is a genuine lightweight and sits discreetly in the hand. This makes it an ideal travel or backup device: it fits into any pocket and attracts little attention while you are out and about.

The compromise for its small size is the small chamber, which holds around 0.15 grams of herb. That is enough for a solo session, but limited for several people or lengthy rounds. The Mini+ mouthpiece sits at the top above the chamber and directs the vapour upwards. Despite its size, the Mini+ is WPA-compatible: a water-pipe adapter lets you connect it to a small bong or bubbler, providing additional filtration and cooling through water. Because the vapour path inside the compact housing is short and can become warm during consecutive draws, water cooling provides a noticeable improvement.

The adapter is available separately. At home, using the Mini+ with a bubbler is the most comfortable option: cool, smooth draws that the small form factor cannot otherwise provide. On the go, simply use it directly with the mouthpiece.

The Mini+ is compatible with dosing capsules – small containers that you can fill with herb in advance and then insert into the chamber. This is particularly practical with the small 0.15-g chamber: prepare several capsules at home and swap them in seconds while you are out, without having to handle loose herb.

This keeps the chamber cleaner and makes switching between different strains easy. For a stealth device that is often used on the go, the capsule system is the most convenient option. Anyone who prefers filling the chamber with loose herb can simply leave the capsule out.

Operation is mechanical and does not require an app:

1. Switch on: Press the power button several times in quick succession. The display lights up and shows the target temperature.
2. Fill the chamber: Remove the mouthpiece and loosely fill the chamber with medium-fine ground herb (do not pack it down), or insert a dosing capsule.
3. Select the temperature: Use the buttons to set the desired temperature (120–221 °C).

5. Draw: Inhale slowly and evenly. Shorter draws are sufficient with the small chamber.

A few simple steps make a difference with the Mini+:

• Grind: medium-fine and even. Reduce the temperature by 5–10 °C for more finely ground herb.
• Fill level: loosely fill the small chamber without packing it down – air must be able to flow through.
• Temperature ramp: start low (around 170 °C) for the fullest flavour, then increase the temperature to extract the remaining active compounds.
• Use a bubbler: The short vapour path becomes warm during consecutive draws – a WPA with water cooling makes the draws noticeably smoother.

Because the chamber is small, the Mini+ is particularly economical: you need little material per session while still extracting plenty of aroma with the right temperature.

Within the Fenix family, the Fenix Pro is the larger sister model with greater endurance. The two differ more fundamentally than their names might suggest:

• Heating principle: The Mini+ uses hybrid heating (convection plus conduction), while the Pro uses pure convection. Pure convection tastes slightly cleaner, while hybrid heating reaches temperature more readily.
• Battery: 1600 mAh for the Mini+ compared with 2300 mAh for the Pro – significantly longer battery life with the Pro.
