V.A.S. – Vape Acquisition Syndrome

What is V.A.S.? A light, honest look at the urge to buy yet another vaporizer.

What is V.A.S.?

Vape Acquisition Syndrome (V.A.S.) is a widespread phenomenon in the vaporizer community. It describes the irresistible urge to collect more and more vaporizers - even though you already have "enough". Spoiler: You never have enough.

"I don't need a new vape. I don't need a new vape. Oh, is that the new Tinymight 2?"

Symptoms

You justify every purchase with "this one does something different"
Your partner asks "Do you really need another one?" and you answer "You don't understand"
You know all vaporizer release dates better than family birthdays
You have a "rotation plan" for your vapes
You check forums daily for new announcements
You spend more on vapes than on what you vaporize
You have vapes you've never used - "but they're so beautiful"
You giggle like a child when a package arrives
You have a spreadsheet/database of your collection
You're planning the next purchase while the current package is still shipping

The 5 Stages of V.A.S.

1

Discovery

You buy your first vaporizer. "This will last forever!"

2

Curiosity

You read reviews and wonder how other vapes taste...

3

Justification

"I need a session vape AND an on-demand. It's only logical."

4

Acceptance

You stop counting. Your collection now has its own cabinet.

5

Enlightenment

You help others choose their first vape... and buy three new ones yourself.

History of V.A.S.

The term Vape Acquisition Syndrome emerged in the early 2010s on online forums like FuckCombustion and Reddit r/vaporents. It's a play on G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), a phenomenon from the music world where guitarists and musicians compulsively buy new equipment.

What started as an inside joke quickly became an established term in the community. Today, vaporizer enthusiasts worldwide recognize themselves in the symptoms - and wear the term with a mix of pride and self-irony.

The Psychology Behind V.A.S.

Why do we collect vaporizers? Science offers several explanations:

Dopamine Reward

The anticipation of waiting for a new vape activates the brain's reward center - sometimes more than the product itself.

Collector Instinct

Humans are natural collectors. Vaporizers offer a perfect combination of utility and collectibility.

Community Belonging

Owning certain vaporizers signals belonging to the community and expertise.

FOMO

Fear Of Missing Out: The fear of missing the "perfect" vaporizer drives many purchases.

V.A.S. by the Numbers

The average V.A.S. sufferer owns 7+ vaporizers
Most regularly use only 2-3 devices
68% have at least one unused vaporizer
The term has existed since 2012 in online forums
V.A.S. affects all price ranges - from budget to premium
