According to QaromaShop, the Taroma XL housing is made of Grade 2 titanium, and the included adapter bowl is also made of titanium. Compared with the standard Taroma, the XL offers more than three times the surface area and thermal mass, which the manufacturer says produces more powerful draws even with the same or larger loads.
Because of a raised step in the housing, the XL fits only 30-mm heating coils with five clockwise turns. QaromaShop's 30-mm coil is intended only for the Qaroma XL and Taroma XL; it connects via a five-pin XLR connector.
The chamber holds slightly more than 500 ruby pearls with a diameter of 3 mm. The chamber directs the airflow and is designed to retain heat better through the additional mass. QaromaShop currently offers only these lab-grown 3-mm ruby pearls; the kit includes four packs containing 165 pieces each.
The Taroma XL should not be operated empty, but it should not be overfilled either. According to the manufacturer, it is intended for solo sessions, sessions with several people, and special occasions.
The Full Kit includes the titanium housing, a titanium adapter bowl with an 18-mm ground-glass joint (optionally with an additional glass bowl, Dimpled or Non Dimpled), a pre-fitted 30-mm coil, the PID controller with a US or EU plug, a coil handle made of stabilized walnut wood, a porcelain stand, four packs of 3-mm ruby pearls, 25.4-mm stainless steel screens, and a stainless steel spoon with a stirring tool. You select the voltage when purchasing: 110 V for the USA or 220 V for other countries.
There is no warranty: returns and exchanges are excluded, and only damage upon arrival can be reported to customer service by email within 24 hours of receipt, with photographic or video evidence.
According to QaromaShop, the Taroma XL's ground-glass joint exerts enough pressure that it could break the inner bowl over time. The manufacturer therefore recommends supporting the joint with basket screens or placing the XL on its side on the porcelain stand. The stand becomes very warm after extended operation, but the manufacturer says it is safe to touch briefly.
For the Taroma models, QaromaShop recommends 316 to 371 °C (600 to 700 °F); the manufacturer does not specify a separate setting for the XL or provide a heat-up time.
